Geraldine Viswanathan may have starred in You’re Cordially Invited – a wedding comedy featuring brides with black eyes, flaming disasters and alligator bedmates – but her real-life wedding stories somehow top even that chaos, including that time she attended a wedding with Taylor Swift.
Chatting to PEDESTRIAN.TV about her new film with Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell, the Aussie actor casually revealed she once attended a wedding with Taylor Swift that required street closures to manage the frenzy.
“I’m a bit of a wedding newbie,” Viswanathan admitted.
“I’ve been to two weddings in my life. It wasn’t chaotic, but I did go to a wedding that Taylor Swift was at, and they had to block off the streets because somebody leaked [the location] on TikTok.”
Geraldine is almost certainly referencing the 2023 New Jersey wedding of Drive-Away Dolls co-star Margaret Qualley and music producer Jack Antonoff.
The event became a magnet for Swifties after TikTok users exposed the rehearsal dinner location, leading to chants of “Taylor! Taylor!” outside the venue and police shutting down roads to control crowds.
Viswanathan noted, “That’s a wild energy on your wedding day… but I wouldn’t say that was chaos.”
The Blockers star had previously shared another gem from that wedding on Late Night With Seth Meyers – the time Swift spontaneously gifted her a designer purse mid-conversation. No big deal.
“I was like, ‘Love your bag’, and she was like, ‘Thanks, do you want it?’” Viswanathan recalled.
“She started taking her stuff out… into her pockets and was like, ‘I got this for free. You can take it’.”
The only free thing I’ve ever got from a wedding is a hangover, my friends need to do better.
When she’s not collecting celebrity handbags or dodging paparazzi mobs, Viswanathan’s been rubbing shoulders with Hollywood legends on set.
When asked about working with Witherspoon and Ferrell, she said: “I’ve grown up watching both of them my whole life, so seeing them in person was wild. But they very quickly disarmed me with their loveliness.”
Her verdict? “They’re both absolute Gs… Reese gave me a packet of Crest whitening strips at one point.” Okay, so like is every celebrity just giving out free stuff? Again, I need new friends.
“I think they just treat everyone with such respect and are so humble and just real pros. I think I’m very lucky. All these greats that I’ve gotten to work with are like that. I haven’t had any kind of ‘don’t meet your hero moments’,” Geraldine shared.
