Furious Biden wanted to FIRE Merrick Garland over Hunter’s court cases, Bob Woodward’s new book reveals
Joe Biden regrets picking Attorney General Merrick Garland to lead his Justice Department after the agency prosecuted his son Hunter.
Publicly, Biden has remained hands off with his son’s tax and gun legal troubles, but in private his anger towards his Attorney General has simmered, according to excerpts of journalist Bob Woodward’s new book obtained by CNN.
‘Should never have picked Garland,’ Biden told an associate, Woodward writes. ‘This is never going to f**king go away.’
There are multiple prosecutions against the president’s 54-year-old son.
President Joe Biden said he regrets ever deciding to appoint Attorney General Merrick Garland to lead his Justice Department considering the multiple federal prosecutions of his son Hunter
In June, Hunter was convicted in Delaware federal court of three felony charges related to the purchase of a revolver firearm in 2018.
Prosecutors argued that the president’s son lied on the purchase form by saying he was not illegally using or addicted to drugs.
Hunter then pleaded guilty in federal court in Los Angeles, California, in September to a nine-count indictment that included three felony tax offenses and six misdemeanor tax offenses.
Despite the crimes committed by his last living son, President Biden still remains furious at AG Garland for agreeing to bring the charges against him.
Woodward described in his upcoming book War a scene between the president and his son at the White House in 2022.
While the president was having dinner with a friend, Hunter came into the room and claimed he had the most to lose from the midterm elections happening at the time.
‘Hunter rambled on about his personal crisis. President Biden leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes and sighed,’ the famous journalist wrote.
Despite Biden’s exacerbation, Hunter wasn’t wrong.
Republicans were out for blood in the election and saw the easiest path toward hurting Democrats’ chances was to go after Biden through his son.
Donald Trump and his allies helped spearhead some of these efforts as retribution for the multiple investigations and federal cases against the former president and his family and businesses.

Journalist and author Bob Woodward’s latest book War is set to hit shelves on October 15 – but excerpts were obtained and published by CNN on Tuesday
In the book, set to his shelves on October 15, Woodward also talks about Biden’s decision to eventually end his bid for reelection.
The author said that while Biden was trying to dig in after his disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump, privately he was facing urges from members of his Cabinet to drop out.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who has a close relationship with the president, spoke about the issue during a July 4, 2024 lunch.
‘I don’t want to see your legacy jeopardized,’ Blinken said, according to the book excerpts. ‘Anyone who is written about gets one sentence. That’s the legacy. If this decision leads you to staying in and winning reelection, great. If it leads to you staying in and losing reelection, that’s the sentence.’
Blinken then asked Biden: ‘Can you see yourself doing it for another four years? You’ve got to answer that question.’
Ultimately, Biden dropped out of the 2024 reelection race against Trump on July 21, 2024 and endorsed his Vice President Kamala Harris to take his place leading the Democratic ticket.
