“France respects international law,” assures Christophe Lemoine, spokesperson for the Quai d’Orsay
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants on Thursday, November 21, against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister Yoav Gallant. “France respects international law. But the occurrence does not arise today. We have indicated condemnations for the conditions of access to humanitarian aid in Gaza and various situations which, in our opinion, were contrary to the law international”explains Christophe Lemoine, spokesperson for the Quai d’Orsay.
The signatory states of the founding treaty of the ICC are theoretically required to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu if he enters their territory. The issuance of this arrest warrant effectively limits the Israeli Prime Minister’s ability to travel abroad. “We have always called for respect for international law and we will do so again. For the moment, the arrival of Benyamin Nethanyaou in France is not an issue”he adds.
