France “recognizes” in a letter “a massacre”, according to the president of Senegal

In an exclusive interview granted to France Télévisions, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the president of Senegal, revealed that he had received Thursday, November 28 “a letter from President Macron in which he recognizes that it was a massacre”about the African riflemen in Thiaroye in 1944. “This step must open the door to perfect collaboration for the manifestation of the whole truth about this painful event”he continued.

80 years after the tragedy, Bassirou Diomaye Faye believes that “something was hidden” from France. “We believe that, this time, France’s commitment will be total”he added. Today, there is still a French military presence in Senegal. “As a Frenchman, do you plan to see us in your country with Senegalese tanks and soldiers?”replied Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who however did not give a deadline for the French soldiers to leave his country.
