France is considering developing a new ballistic missile launched from land with a range exceeding 1,000 kilometers
Arab Defense Website, November 27, 2024: France is studying the development of a new land-launched ballistic missile with a range exceeding 1,000 kilometers, which is the first such initiative since 1997. This development reflects the increasing global dependence on ballistic missiles that have proven their effectiveness in various conflicts.
The proposed missile aims to fill a gap in France’s capabilities, as its current ballistic missile systems rely exclusively on submarines and are designed for nuclear deterrence.
France currently lacks land-based ballistic missile capabilities, and its only ballistic missile is the M51 submarine-launched nuclear deterrent. Discussions between the French Armed Forces and the General Directorate of Armaments have focused on creating a missile system that can be operated from mobile platforms such as trucks.
