Fans have gone wild for the latest Easter offering from Waitrose and have ‘sprinted’ to the supermarket to grab one particularly appealing sweet treat ahead of the holiday period.
Customers have fallen in love with the supermarket’s croissant-shaped chocolate Easter egg, calling it the best they’ve ever tried.
The ‘croissant’, which costs a whopping £15, is made of blonde chocolate, covered in a milk chocolate drizzle and topped with a chocolate crumb.
The ‘egg’, which is actually fashioned into the shape of a pastry, has a thick blonde chocolate shell which has a toffee-like taste.
Shoppers have gone wild for the treat after it hit UK shelves at the luxury supermarket – however some have been left disappointed that it’s hollow as they call for more of the product.
One reviewer, who posts under the handle @bigdaddybsfoods, described the egg as the best blonde chocolate he’d ever tried.
He said: ‘It’s the exact same chocolate on the outside as the viral pistachio egg.
‘It’s so creamy, so indulgent. it’s so well-balanced. The actual chocolate is nice and thick too – super rich and the milk chocolate crumb gives it a bit of crunch and texture to it.

‘Overall, I think this tastes amazing. I will say I think it’s a little bit overpriced for what it is but the quality is there for sure.’
While Emily (@emiiyjade) told her followers: ‘Guys! I don’t think you’re ready for this egg. Looks amazing, we have to try this.’
After taking a bite, she said: ‘Wow. This tastes like Caramilk and it has bits of toffee or something in it.’
She added: ‘It tastes exactly like Caramilk, it’s like a caramel-flavoured milk chocolate. That is amazing.
‘This would be such a good Easter egg and I’m sorry – that’s so creative and the detail on this is actually amazing.
‘This is definitely up there with one of the best Easter eggs I’ve tried so far this year.’
Another content creator, @LifeOfAlif, was also excited to try it and gasped as he unpackaged the luxury Easter treat in a video filmed in his car.
He told his followers the egg ‘looks sick’ but was disappointed the croissant was hollow.

But as he munched away on it, he said: ‘I’ve got to give credit where credit is due, it does taste decent. It’s like toffee.
Leanne (@leannelovescooking) was also a fan of the treat and added it to her early morning shop after spotting it in store.
As she unpacked the delicious-looking chocolate she explained that it cost her £15 which she thought was a lot but admitted it was still a good price ‘if you’re looking for a special one then this may be the option for you’.
As she showed the croissant off to the camera she admitted it ‘smelled really really good’ and that she’d almost been tempted to tuck in if it weren’t so early in the morning.
The supermarket described their viral egg as made of ‘hollow white chocolate with caramelised sugar, with feuilletine wafer and caramel pieces, decorated with milk chocolate and milk chocolate vermicelli.
Waitrose’s exciting new offering comes as customers were overjoyed after Terry’s, who normally dominate Christmas with their chocolate orange, released an Easter egg.
The British brand released a brand new chocolate orange cream filled egg.
The 34g solid egg is filled with a vibrant orange cream, similar to its well-known competitor the Cadbury’s Creme Egg, which has dominated the market since the 60s under its old name, Fry’s.

Advertising the new treat on its website, the chocolatier recommended: ‘Bite your way into the creamy, tangy, orangey, centre of our new Terry’s Chocolate Orange Cream Filled Egg. Perfect for Easter egg hunts and snacking alike.’
The egg will make for an inexpensive Easter treat for under £1, with retailers selling it between 65p and 75p.
However, some fans said the egg was ‘overhyped’, especially as a full chocolate orange from the brand costs just over £1.
It comes just in time for Easter, which falls on April 20 this year, and is available to buy in supermarkets across the UK.
The new sweet treats can be bought from Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons, Co-op, Waitrose, Iceland, B&M and Poundland.
Fans soon flocked to the comments to express their thoughts on the new chocolatey product.
They wrote: ‘Oh my God… I need this in my life’;
‘I made chocolate brownies with these the other day. Hard to find them in stock anywhere though’;
‘They are so good. Just had a taste today’;
‘Definitely going to be scoffing these!’
