Wicked really is the gift that keeps on giving. Not only are we about to get the movie on streaming platforms so I can relieve the two hours and 40 minutes, but they are also giving us never before seen bonus scenes! The digital release comes packed with three whole hours of bonus content. Happy New Year indeed!
Among the extra features, viewers can look forward to lots of behind the scenes moments, commentary tracks from director John M. Chu, and insights from stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
There are also mini documentaries that explore everything from choreography to production design — perfect for every hardcore fan.
Here’s one of the deleted scenes from Oz:
However, one particular deleted scene has caught the attention of fans more than others — the train scene. This moment showcases Elphaba and Glinda’s journey from Shiz University to the Emerald City, and many fans believe it was “a vital scene” for developing their relationship.
One TikTok user said, “Why didn’t they keep the train scenes??? It would’ve solidified the fact that they grew really close to each other.”
Another added, “Yeah I felt like some development was missing between them, and the train scenes fed that need for me.” Clearly, fans feel this scene could have added depth to their bond.
In addition to this train scene, there’s also chatter about a potential deleted moment featuring Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) and Boq (Ethan Slater) taking their shirts off. Who do I have to yell at for taking that away from us??
One fan quipped, “Bro why would they delete them IDC let the movie be three hours.” The thirst is real and same girl!
Some fans are just happy to keep the party moving, appreciating anything from Oz at all. “I love how they keep giving more !! So cool,” said one fan on X.
The digital release will also include various extended scenes like Glinda teaching Elphaba how to toss her hair (important), more moments between Elphaba and Fiyero in the forest and a full karaoke version! I’d like to apologise to my neighbours for the amount of “Defying Gravity” you will be hearing through the walls.
You’ll be able to rent or buy Wicked from December 31, 2024 on Apple TV, Prime Video and YouTube.
For those who prefer physical copies, Wicked will hit shelves on February 4, 2025, in 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats. So if you want to own a piece of this magical journey, mark your calendars! Honestly, at this point, I’ll take anything I can get while we wait for Wicked Part 2, I’m here for all of it!
