FA Cup fourth round draw LIVE: Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City learn opponents after Arsenal vs Man Utd clash

Anfield reception ‘biggest compliment’ for Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold

The draw for the fourth round of the FA Cup is set to take place as the remaining sides find out their fate.

The draw follows the conclusion of Arsenal’s tie against Manchester United. Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are among the Premier League teams to have already booked their place in round four, with Plymouth Argyle pulling off the shock of the round so far with victory away to Brentford on Saturday.

The clash between Arsenal and United features on a Sunday afternoon slate as three more Premier League teams advanced. Newcastle came from behind to beat Bromley, Crystal Palace edged Stockport 1-0 and Ipswich beat Bristol Rovers 3-0.

Southampton host Swansea later today before Millwall face Dagenham and Redbridge in the final scheduled encounter of the round on Monday night. However, inclement weather postponed games between Mansfield and Wigan and Preston and Charlton, with those fixtures resheduled for this midweek.

Eberechi Eze’s early effort made the difference as Crystal Palace beat League One Stockport 1-0 in their third-round FA Cup clash at Selhurst Park.

Oliver Glasner made five changes to the Palace side that drew with Chelsea on January 4th, but still fielded a strong starting 11, including the England international.

Eze fired Palace in front in the fourth minute and the hosts dominated possession, though both sides had their chances to make a difference to the scoreline.

The visitors remained in it and indeed manufactured more shots on target than their Premier League opponents, who held on to secure a victory perhaps less comfortable than they would have envisioned.

Kalvin Phillips scored his first goal since December 2023 as Ipswich beat Bristol Rovers 3-0 in the third round of the FA Cup at Portman Road.

The defensive midfielder showed signs of his best as his curled finish put Kieran McKenna’s men on track to overcome their League One visitors with further goals coming courtesy of Jack Clarke and Jack Taylor before half-time.

Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes came off the bench to ease Newcastle into the FA Cup fourth round after Eddie Howe was forced to turn to his big guns to see off League Two Bromley.

Head coach Howe made nine changes to the side which beat Arsenal 2-0 in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg in midweek as he attempted to rest key men, but saw his understudies fail to impress in a first half during which Cameron Congreve fired the visitors into an eighth-minute lead in front of a crowd of 52,088 at St James’ Park.

Lewis Miley levelled before half-time, but such was Howe’s displeasure that he sent on Gordon and Guimaraes after the restart and saw the England international convert a 49th-minute penalty before 21-year-old striker Will Osula wrapped up a 3-1 win and an eighth on the trot for the first time since 2016 with his first goal for the club.

Pep Guardiola has revealed that club captain Kyle Walker has asked to leave Manchester City this month and explore the option of playing abroad as his career starts to wind down.

Walker, 34, still has 18 months left on his contract having signed a new three-year deal in the summer of 2023 when he was wanted by Bayern Munich but the German side were unable to agree a deal with City.

The right-back has fallen out of favour in recent weeks, having not started a game since the 2-1 defeat in the Manchester derby on 15 December, and he wasn’t even selected for the much-rotated side that thrashed League Two Salford City 8-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday evening with Matheus Nunes deputising in defence instead.

James McAtee plundered a hat-trick as Manchester City romped to an 8-0 victory over Salford on a day when most of the Premier League sides in action safely negotiated their way through the FA Cup third round.

Jeremy Doku, Divin Mubama and Nico O’Reilly had a much-changed Man City 3-0 ahead at half-time against their League Two neighbours, but the fireworks came after the break as penalties from Jack Grealish and Doku as well as 22-year-old McAtee’s 19-minute treble put a smile on Pep Guardiola’s face.

Trent Alexander-Arnold demonstrated his attacking qualities as Liverpool beat Accrington Stanley 4-0 in the third round of the FA Cup.

Six days after his defending came in for fierce criticism in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United, Alexander-Arnold captained the Reds and showed what he could do at the other end of the pitch with a brilliant goal at Anfield.

Diogo Jota had given Liverpool the lead in the 29th minute before Alexander-Arnold curled in a sumptuous second on the stroke of half-time and substitutes Jayden Danns and Federico Chiesa completed the scoring.
