European Commission announces TikTok’s compliance with Digital Services Act

Brussels, August 5 (WAM) – The European Commission in Brussels said that TikTok’s earlier pledges to permanently withdraw its TikTok Lite rewards programme from the European Union are now legally binding.

The European Union’s executive body in Brussels said TikTok had addressed concerns raised by the European Commission in formal open proceedings against the platform on April 22, and was working to ensure compliance with the Digital Services Act.

He pointed out that the platform has pledged to permanently withdraw its rewards program from the European Union, and to commit not to launch any other program that would circumvent the withdrawal.

It is noteworthy that “TikTok Lite” included a “rewards program,” which allowed users to earn points while performing certain tasks on the platform, such as watching videos, liking content, following creators, or inviting friends to join.

The decision announced by the Commission makes the platform’s obligations legally binding, and any breach of them will immediately amount to a breach of the Digital Services Act and could therefore lead to fines.
