The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and the National Institute of Marine Sciences and Fisheries signed a cooperation protocol with the aim of establishing the Regional Development Center for Marine Life Conservation at the headquarters of the National Institute of Marine Sciences and Fisheries, Red Sea Branch in Hurghada.
The protocol was signed by all   Dr. Gina Sami Al-Feki, Acting President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, And Dr. Abeer Mounir, Acting President of the National Institute of Marine Sciences and Fisheries.
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research stressed that the academy plays a vital role in the development of Egypt’s various regions through its regional centers, and pointed out the importance of linking scientific research to societal issues, and directing efforts towards solving problems that hinder development using modern scientific methods. He also stressed the need to achieve integration between scientific research and government institutions in a way that contributes to the implementation of Egypt’s Vision 2030, and enhancing compatibility with the UN goals for sustainable development and principles of governance.
In his speech, Dr. Mohamed Al-Amir, Supervisor of the Regional Centers at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, explained that the Regional Development Center for Marine Life Conservation in Hurghada is the first of its kind in terms of the ambitious goals it seeks to achieve, explaining that these goals include ensuring the sustainability of the unique marine environment. In the Red Sea, implementing environmentally friendly practices, in addition to establishing marine reserves and a gene bank that proves the Egyptian identity of rare marine species. The goals also include studying biodiversity, developing current marine museums that include rare collectibles, in addition to environmental awareness, and establishing a scientific diving center to support environmental research and initiatives.
For her part, the Acting President of the National Institute of Marine Sciences and Fisheries indicated that the establishment of the Regional Development Center for the Conservation of Marine Life in Hurghada is a pivotal step in preserving the biological diversity of the Red Sea, which is one of the richest marine environments in the world, stressing the endeavor through this project. To enhance research and applied efforts to protect rare species and ensure the sustainability of marine resources in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the global goals for sustainable development.
