Emirati Jiu-Jitsu Champion: I am preparing for a big challenge tomorrow in "Abu Dhabi Extreme"
Abu Dhabi, August 1st, 2018 (WAM) — Emirati champion Balqis Abdul Karim Al Hashemi, a member of the UAE national jiu-jitsu team (purple belt), is preparing to participate tomorrow, Friday, in the fifth edition of the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship at Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi.
Al-Hashemi, 20, has achieved outstanding results since her start in Jiu-Jitsu about 8 years ago, and her tally has reached more than 50 colored medals.
Al Hashemi said that participating in the fifth edition of the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship enhances her ambition to compete in the 48 kg weight category in an anticipated match against a champion from Russia.
She added, “I certainly expect a difficult match, and we have great confidence in our abilities to face the challenge that awaits us, especially since the sons and daughters of the UAE have achieved great and important accomplishments in various martial arts, thanks to the development witnessed by the game, and the attention it receives at all levels.”
She explained that she feels satisfied with her readiness to participate in the tournament after different stages of preparation, 3 times a day with the national team at the Mubadala Arena, and also through the cage training in Abu Dhabi.
Regarding her connection to the sport of Jiu-Jitsu, she said, “My brother Basil, a former player for Bani Yas Club, was the inspiration for this journey. The presence of the game in my previous school also helped me develop my abilities after my first beginnings in the “sixth grade.” I thank all those who supported my ambition and gave me the honor of raising the UAE flag on the podiums, and the care and support of the wise leadership for women and empowering them with competitive skills and abilities.”
