Elon Musk-supporting Republican relentlessly booed and jeered by voters as town hall goes off the rails
Republican Congressman Mike Flood faced the wrath of angry constituents on Tuesday when he was booed at a town hall in Nebraska.
The congressman was the latest in a series of GOP lawmakers who’ve been on defense while meeting with Americans in their districts while Congress is on recess.
People across the country have been showing up to raise concerns over the work of Elon Musk and DOGE as well as other controversial policies in the Trump administration.
Flood was booed mercilessly by attendees at his event in Columbus, NE as he defended spending cuts by the administration carried out by DOGE.
One attendee challenged the congressman on why he does not think the world’s richest man doesn’t have a conflict of interest.
‘What makes you think… he has no conflict of interest? Do you think he would cut that before he would cut our Medicare or our Social Security or our Jobs?’ one man asked as the crowd cheered.
‘I support Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency,’ Flood responded.
The crowd in the auditorium went wild, booing and giving the congressman the thumbs down.

It comes as Musk has moved to gut the government agencies that are responsible for regulating his businesses like the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
It was one of the multiple times Flood was met with jeering during his event.
At another point, Flood was booed for arguing in support of Trump’s goal to slash spending.
‘For the first time in decades, we have a president that is cutting spending and he is looking to find efficiencies, and I support that effort,’ Flood said to jeers.
He also enraged attendees who booed when he argued in favor of extending provisions of the Trump tax law.
‘We’re not going to grow the economy if we don’t pass the 2017 extension of the tax cuts that you’re already living under,’ Flood claimed as constituents shouted their disapproval.
During the town hall, attendees started chanting ‘tax the rich’ while Flood was discussing the U.S. national debt.
The GOP lawmaker was also blasted for his response to how Trump has handled Ukraine and criticism of President Volodymyr Zelensky as the pair clashed in the Oval Office on February 28. The entire stunning moment was all captured on camera.
One woman slammed Flood at his town hall for his response to the meeting.
‘I do want to say: shame. I want to say shame for your comment, your quote that you said “President Zelensky’s approach today was disrespectful to President Trump and undermines the goal of bringing peace…” so shame on that,’ she said.
The woman then went on to share that she was the daughter, niece and sister of veterans and raised concerns over spending cuts.
‘I have received the American Legion Auxiliary newsletter for a long time. For decades they have stated that we’re underfunded and understaffed, repeatedly stated that. You have said otherwise with DOGE. Who’s lying, them or you?’ the woman asked.
Flood insisted the U.S. will keep its promise to give veterans the best care. He claimed he would work in Congress to support the veterans, but as he spoke shouting could be heard from the crowd.
The lawmaker went on to defend his response to Zelensky’s face-to-face with Trump at the White House, calling the meeting ‘a disaster.’
When he said he believed Zelensky ‘should have signed that agreement’ his words were met with another intense round of boos and thumbs down.
Flood’s venturing out to meet with constituents took place in a safely red district that he won in November by more than 20 points. But even in Trump country, people are upset and showing up to express their disapproval.
Flood is not the only Republican lawmaker to face angry constituents at a town hall.
A series of GOP town halls have turned rowdy as frustrated Americans have shown up to demand answers about Trump and Musk and blast their lawmakers.
Last month, Republican Congressman Rich McCormick was met with harsh criticism at a town hall in his district for his support of massive layoffs and budget cuts by DOGE.
Last week, GOP Congressman Chuck Edwards faced boos and jeering during his town hall inside a packed auditorium in Asheville, North Carolina in his solid red district.
On Friday, Congresswoman Harriet Hageman in deep red Wyoming was even met with concerns from Republicans over Musk’s DOGE at her town hall, the Associated Press reported.
While some Republican lawmakers continue to brave tense conversations with angry constituents, others have shied away from holding public town halls.
North Carolina Congresswoman Virginia Foxx told Fox News on Sunday she is happy to personally speak with constituents who come to her office but she does not do town halls because she believes it’s an ‘opportunity for people to yell at their member of Congress.’
According to Flood’s office 400 people showed up for Flood’s town hall on Tuesday at a high school auditorium.
After the meeting, Flood spoke with members of the media where he acknowledged he heard a lot of concerns about the Department of Veterans Affairs, which has faced slashes by DOGE.
‘I’m going to go visit the hospital. I’m going to go visit the director. I’m going to ask more questions,’ Flood said. I saw very clearly that a lot of my constituents had questions about it.’
He argued that he’s confident Trump wants the veterans taken care of.
‘I’m going to take that message back and I’m going to start asking a lot of questions to make sure that we’re meeting our obligations,’ he said, noting it’s not something he has seen in his call logs to his office.
