Ella Emhoff opens up about her ‘whole life’ of mental health woes in response to ‘hospital breakdown’ rumors
Ella Emhoff has opened up about her mental health woes in a vulnerable post to Instagram.
The activist and fashion designer, 25, had appeared distraught on Wednesday after her stepmother Kamala Harris’ presidential bid came to a heartbreaking end.
Ella shared an image of herself looking devastated as she openly cried alongside campaign staffers and family members.
On Saturday she published a curse-laden post on Instagram. The outburst seems to have been prompted by a widely circulated post on X which spread cruel rumors suggesting she had checked into an in-patient mental health facility.
The rumor has since been debunked as fake news with Ella setting the record straight for herself.

‘There’s a rumor about me having a mental breakdown and getting checked into a hospital. Not true,’ Ella wrote.
‘Also f*** you if you’re out there spreading that. There’s nothing wrong with showing emotion and crying. Anyone who says there is probably needs a good cry,’ she added.
‘I’ve struggled with my mental health my whole life and I’m not ashamed of it,’ Ella admitted.
For those wondering what Ella had been doing since the Democrats election defeat she added: ‘I’ve literally just been here playing fetch with [my dog] Jerry.’
The heartless rumor also led to Ella’s mother, Kerstin Emhoff, taking to X to bash those spreading it.
‘More MAGA bs against my family. Leave my kids alone!!! Ella is doing great and spending a lovely day with her mom!’ Kerstin wrote.
‘Having the ability to show your emotions is something we should all hope for. It’s ok to not feel great right now. We aren’t letting anyone break our family down,’ she added.

‘Truly no words,’ she captioned the post. ‘We are all gonna get through this. It just f***ing hurts like a b***h right now and that’s ok.’
On Wednesday Ella urged her 500,000 followers to stay strong following Harris’ concession speech at Howard University after Donald Trump‘s landslide win.
Ella’s following grew significantly during her stepmother’s vice presidency and presidential candidacy, as she became known for her liberal activism and trendy fashion choices.
On Friday she urged Democrats to rally together and combat Trump’s pending second term.
‘The fight doesn’t stop now,’ she wrote. ‘Just please check in on your people right now.
‘This is the time to organize, mobilize, and make a difference in your communities big or small.’
She signed off the post: ‘I’m here for you all and love you guys.’

Ella carried on her online struggle session on her Substack ‘Soft Pins’, which is mainly based around her homemade fashion pieces and crocheting.
In a post on Friday, she wrote: ‘Ooof… What. A. Week.’
‘I feel like we all need this extra this week.
‘I know we are all feeling a lot of emotions right now. That’s normal, and it would be weird if we weren’t. I know I’ve gone through about 10 cycles of sadness, rage, and stress—and that was just this morning.
‘I think it’s important to feel them all so they don’t fester inside.
‘One way I always make myself feel better is by harnessing that anger and sadness into creativity. I know that’s not for everyone. It can be really hard to create when things feel so uncertain.’

Harris took the stage at her alma mater of Howard University, telling her tearful supporters that had gathered at the school that ‘this is not what we wanted’
Harris waited until the afternoon of the day following the election to deliver her concession speech.
‘To my beloved Doug and our family, I love you so very much,’ she said to crowds gathered a her alma mater, Howard University.
Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff was seen keeping a close arm around his daughter and embracing his son, Cole.
And it wasn’t just Harris’ family who were was visibly rocked. Her running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz patted his heart and appeared to also hold back tears as the incumbent vice president thanked him and his family.
Doug Emhoff proceeded to pat Walz on the back as the crowd that gathered cheered them on.
