Egyptian Youth Council: Supporting rural women is an essential pillar for achieving sustainable development

The Egyptian Youth Council, headed by Dr. Mohamed Mamdouh, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and member of the National Council for Human Rights, stressed the importance of enhancing the role of rural women in achieving sustainable development and food security, praising the great role that rural women play in the various stages of agricultural production, on the occasion of World Day. For rural women.

 

Dr. Mamdouh pointed out that rural women constitute about 43% of the total workforce in the agricultural sector, making them an essential part of the national economy.

Dr. Mamdouh praised the state’s efforts by adopting development policies that take into account the needs of rural women, and work to improve their access to basic services such as health care, education, and vocational training, with the aim of enhancing their capabilities and contributions to society, These comprehensive efforts reflect the Egyptian state’s commitment to empowering rural women and enhancing their role in society, stressing the need to combat all forms of violence and discrimination against rural women.

 

Dr. Mamdouh added that supporting women Rural areas are considered an essential pillar for achieving the sustainable development goals, especially the goal related to eliminating hunger and poverty, and he called on all parties to unite efforts to empower rural women and enhance their role in building a more sustainable future.

 

It is worth noting that the Egyptian Youth Council launched the national program to enhance the participation of women working in the agricultural sector in public affairs under the supervision of Representative Fatt Al-Mazalawi and includes Representative Samira Al-Gazzar, Representative Amal Asfour, and a number of female MPs interested in this matter, in addition to a number of specialists in the agricultural sector and rural development,   The program aims to encourage women working in the agricultural sector to participate in economic and community activities, and to increase the participation of women working in the agricultural sector in public and political life, including participation in local elections and parliamentary councils. 

 

It is noteworthy that The United Nations General Assembly designated the fifteenth of October of each year  As an International Day of Rural Women, in recognition of the work undertaken by rural women,  It has a decisive role and contribution in promoting agricultural and rural development.
