Egypt participates in the meeting of the Organization of African Petroleum Producing Countries in Cameroon

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Engineer Karim Badawi, participated in the forty-sixth session of the Council of Ministers of the African Petroleum Producing Countries (APPO), which was held in the Cameroonian capital, Yaounde, where the meeting included 8 ministers of petroleum and energy from the organization’s member states to discuss issues. The Ministry of Petroleum stated in a statement today, Friday, that the ministerial meeting reviewed the most important activities of the organization during the last period, most notably the developments in establishing the African Energy Bank, the establishment agreement of which was signed at its headquarters. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in Cairo in June 2024, explaining that Nigeria, the host country for the bank’s headquarters, is working to prepare the bank’s headquarters for opening in January 2025 in accordance with what was agreed upon with the countries of the organization. 

The agenda also included strengthening cooperation. Regional and continental, promoting sustainable energy development, and dealing with the challenges of access to energy and financing in Africa amid the international energy transition agenda.

The Minister of Petroleum affirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting the development of energy sources in Africa by showcasing the capabilities of Egyptian companies in various aspects. The value chain in the oil and gas sector, with the aim of helping member states develop their sectors, highlighting strategies to enhance African cooperation to ensure the optimal use of resources and at the most appropriate time for the benefit of the peoples of the continent.

Engineer Karim Badawi also met with Omar Farouk, Secretary-General. The organization’s activities and the most important successes achieved by the organization were discussed, stressing Egypt’s support for all of the organization’s work.

The minister also met on the sidelines of the session with his counterparts from the ministers of petroleum and energy on the African continent to discuss ways of bilateral cooperation.
