Egypt participates in the meeting of the Committee of Commissioners for member states of the United Institute for Nuclear Sciences

The United Institute for Nuclear Sciences in the city of Dubna, the Russian Federation, held the meetings of the Finance Committee and the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Institute’s member states in the city of Minsk, the Belarusian capital, in the period from November 13-16, 2024, in implementation of the mandate of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The Egyptian delegation consisting of Dr. . Gina El-Feki, Acting President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and Egypt’s Commissioner to the Institute, Dr. Tamer Hamouda, Supervisor of the Innovation and Marketing Sector at the Academy, and Dr. Mona Al-Naa, supervisor of the scientific and cultural relations sector at the academy, and Dr. Wael Badawy, coordinator of cooperation between the Institute and Egypt at the Institute, along with members of the delegation of the Institute’s 19 member states, in addition to observers and participating members.

A session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the governments of the member states of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (CP JINR) was held. In the capital of the Republic of Belarus, headed by the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of Georgia to the Joint Nuclear Research Institute Arsen Khvedelidze. Committee members learned about the main scientific findings of the Institute and its activities in staff training and social infrastructure development.

 Following the meeting, ‎The Committee of Commissioners of the Joint Institute approved  ‎For Nuclear Research on the draft budget of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research for the year 2025, along with the indicative contributions of member states for the period 2026-2028. This decision was made after a detailed presentation by the Head of the Institute’s Budget and Economic Policy Department Nikolai Kalinin and a speech by the Chairman of the Finance Committee, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia Andrei Omelchuk, who reviewed the results of the meeting of the Finance Committee on November 14, 2024.

‎Director of the Institute Grigory Trubnikov noted during the meeting that this year, the Institute held a large number of student schools and trainings, attended by more than 400 participants from Armenia and Belarus. Egypt, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, Serbia, South Africa and Vietnam. In addition, schools for physics teachers and school children from member countries have been held.

‎The Institute also implements a specialized international postdoctoral program and an Institute Fellowship programme. They each received more than a hundred applications from around the world for selection. As part of these programmes, the Institute employs 15 postdoctoral students and 10 fellows. The director of the institute added that soon, a separate program will be launched for Latin American countries, and the idea of ​​creating a program for Asian and African countries is being considered.

‎The institute provides a cooperation opportunity such as participatory employment. This format allows scientists from Member States to use the Institute’s infrastructure and access databases and other resources while retaining their main function. Over the years, 150 people from all member countries have worked at the Institute as participating staff.

 

It is worth noting that the year 2024 witnessed the participation of 15 Egyptian children aged 14-17 in The institute received the training scholarship after winning the national physics competition held in Egypt, with the participation of 250 Egyptian students. The institute’s three-week winter school was also attended by more than 20 young Egyptian researchers from various universities. And research centers, and more than 21 Egyptian researchers and professors in all specialties are currently working in the institute’s laboratories.
