Egypt launches the fourth session of the African training program in space science and technology

 Today, the activities of the African Training Program, in its fourth session, were launched, which is held in the Space Academy building at the headquarters of the Egyptian Space Agency under the supervision of Dr. Sherif Sedqi, CEO of the Agency.

This comes within the framework of regional cooperation between The Egyptian Space Agency and the African Space Agency, under the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Affairs of Egyptians Abroad, represented by the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development, and Egypt hosting the headquarters of the Space Agency.

 

The opening of the training program was witnessed by Ambassador Osama Al-Hadi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development, Dr. Tidiane Otara, Head of the African Space Agency, and Dominique Demartez, Scientific Attaché of the Embassy. Dr. Sherif Sedqi, CEO of the Space Agency, confirmed Al-Masry Al-Youm said that this program is an embodiment of Egypt’s commitment to the African continent by sharing its knowledge, expertise, and facilities in the field of space science and technology. He said that since the launch of the program in 2021, the program has been supported by the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development, hosted by the Egyptian Space Agency, and implemented. By experts from the agency, this program has so far provided a unique training opportunity for 71 engineers, scientists and specialists from 34 countries. African.

 

He added that in this training course, the agency is hosting 21 engineers and specialists from 20 African countries, namely Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, Tanzania, Zambia, And Zimbabwe.

 

He stressed that this year is a historic moment in the African space journey, as the dream of establishing the African Space Agency is fulfilled and Dr. Tidjan Ouattara arrives in Cairo to officially assume his duties as President of the African Space Council.

 

He explained that this step represents a new dimension of Egypt’s commitment to developing the space sector in Africa. Egypt, as the host country of the African Space Agency, has It completed the construction of its headquarters and facilities.

 

Dr. Sherif Sedqi said " We are currently working with Dr. Tejan to support him in his mission and provide a strong start for the agency by providing the advanced facilities hosted by the Egyptian Space Agency for the benefit of the African continent. This includes establishing multilateral cooperation with African countries within the framework of huge projects that enable Africa to contribute globally to the development of this promising field.”

 

He stressed that the agency welcomes participants from various African countries in the two-week training course, and will be given the full opportunity to tour the agency’s facilities. And see the laboratories, and follow up on the progress of work in establishing the headquarters of the African Space Agency.

 

He noted that the training will be provided in English and French to facilitate the trainees’ participation and invest in their abilities and skills in cooperation with Egyptian specialists. This paves the way for future cooperation opportunities and to enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences between the Egyptian Space Agency and African countries in the field of space technology.

 

For his part, the Ambassador delivered Osama Al-Hadi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development, delivered a speech during the opening of the African training program, in which he praised the prominent role of the Egyptian Space Agency in supporting African training efforts… stressing that through joint cooperation between African countries and the Egyptian Space Agency, achievements can be achieved Great, such as launching more satellites.

In turn, Dr. Tidiane Otara, President of the African Space Agency, expressed his pride in being in a technological edifice that embraces the African Space Agency and works to train space researchers from all over the continent. Stressing that the Egyptian Space Agency plays a pivotal role in enhancing African cooperation by providing the continent with expertise and information, as well as localizing and testing satellites. He explained that these efforts aim to achieve the unity of the continent and transform Africa into a "small village" Integrated in the field of space technology.

 

In the years 2021, 2022 and 2023, the Egyptian Space Agency coordinated training workshops with a group of African member states in the field of satellite technology.
