Egypt is first on the African continent in the number of scientific and technological clusters
Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, reviewed a report analyzing the results of the annual Global Innovation Index for the year 2024, which showed that Egypt came in first place on the African continent in the number of scientific and technological clusters, with 11 clusters, representing 22% of the number of clusters. At the continent level.
Egypt also ranked 86th globally out of 133 countries, according to the report issued by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for the year 2024.

Dr. Ayman Ashour confirmed that international publishing of scientific research in Egypt enjoys great support from the Ministry, universities and various research centres, noting that the Ministry is working to create a stimulating environment for researchers to support scientific research at the international level, explaining the importance of research having an economic return. To benefit society, and that its innovative outputs have a financial return that contributes to supporting the state’s efforts to improve the national economy and develop society.
The Minister explained that the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research supports the efforts of researchers to excel in scientific research, as the principle of (innovation and entrepreneurship) is one of its seven main principles. He explained that the Ministry supports the transformation of educational and research institutions into innovative institutions, and the creation of an attractive and stimulating environment for cooperation between Educational and research institutions and the industrial community.
Dr. Hossam Othman, Deputy Minister for Innovation and Scientific Research, indicated that the Ministry has adopted a policy of investing in the results of scientific research to create value-added products that achieve a positive impact on the societal and economic levels, and to benefit from the outcomes of scientific research to come up with competitive products that achieve a tangible material impact.
He added that the Ministry adopts a scientific approach based on continuous follow-up of universities, centers, institutes and research bodies to focus their research plans on innovation, explaining that these efforts will show their impact on the ground during the coming period, to contribute positively to supporting the national economy.
Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, the media advisor and official spokesman for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated that the remarkable growth witnessed by Egyptian universities and research centers in international scientific publishing is due to several measures taken during the last period, the most important of which is: the technical support provided by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. Scientific research for Egyptian universities, and training in international publishing, pointing out what universities and research centers do in stimulating researchers with all academic degrees to publish in prestigious international journals, and the distinguished appreciation that internationally published scientific research receives in the work of scientific promotion committees, and making information sources available to researchers through the network.
