Egypt and Nigeria sign a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of water resources management
As part of the activities of the Seventh Cairo Water Week and the Ninth African Water Week, Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and Engineer Joseph Otsev, Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of water resources management.
Suwailem indicated that this memorandum aims to consolidate the distinguished relations existing between the two countries, and to enhance joint cooperation in the field of water resources management.
He stressed Egypt’s keenness To enhance cooperation with all sister African countries to serve water and climate issues, especially during Egypt’s current presidency of the Council of African Ministers of Water (AMCO), stressing the importance of cooperation and exchanging expertise and successful experiences in dealing with the water and climate challenges facing many countries of the African continent.< /p>
The memorandum of understanding includes cooperation between the two countries in the fields of (irrigation development – operation and maintenance of water facilities – control of aquatic weeds in waterways using mechanical and biological methods – modern irrigation techniques – flood and drought forecasting – flood risk management – rain harvesting technology – Groundwater management – water resources governance – adaptation to climate change in the water sector – water quality monitoring), and enhancing cooperation in the field of scientific research
