Eddie Hearn sets retirement U-turn deadline for Tyson Fury to FINALLY fight Anthony Joshua this summer

Tyson Fury’s latest retirement will need to end within the next month if a summer fight with Anthony Joshua is to be salvaged, according to Eddie Hearn.

While the boxing world has reacted with cynicism to Fury’s latest claims to have stepped away from the sport, they have cast uncertainty over the prospects of a meeting with Joshua ever materialising, especially in the short term.

Hearn previously disclosed that he reserved dates with Wembley Stadium for May or June to stage the bout, but the window for such a large-scale promotion is closing.

In order for those blueprints to stand any chance of seeing the light of day, Hearn believes Fury would need to perform a U-turn imminently.

He told Mail Sport: ‘None of us know what Fury will do next, but if we are to see the fight in the summer, he would probably have to come out of retirement in the next three or four weeks.

‘After that, the summer gets difficult for a fight of this size. The future? Hopefully.

‘I think he will be back, but it’s in his hands. For AJ, we have options to pursue and we are looking at them currently.’

Of Joshua’s fall-back positions, the stated aim would be to face the winner of Daniel Dubois’s IBF world-title fight with Joseph Parker in February.

Fury, meanwhile, is yet to speak publicly since announcing his retirement on Monday in what was widely perceived as a stunt to improve his position in negotiations.
