Disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo announces he’s running for mayor of NYC

Disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is running for mayor of the Big Apple.

The Democrat, 67, made the announcement on Saturday in a 17-minute video to his YouTube and social media channels.

The news comes just years after he resigned from office in 2021 after facing a slew of sexual harassment allegations, all of which he’s denied.

Cuomo, the brother of NewsNation journalist, Chris Cuomo, told viewers that ‘New York City is the greatest city in the world,’ but ‘it is in trouble.’

‘The city just feel threatening, out of control. These conditions exist not as an act of God, but rather as an act of our political leaders,’ he said.

‘Or more precisely, the lack of intelligent action by many of our political leaders,’ he said, referring to the Big Apple’s current Mayor Eric Adams, despite not mentioning directly at all.

Allies of Cuomo’s campaign filed paperwork on Wednesday with the New York Board of Elections to create a political action committee called ‘Fix the City,’ USA Today reported.

The group plans to raise $15 million,  more than double the amount raised by the Super PAC during Adam’s 2021 campaign, according to the New York Times.

Other than Cuomo, State Senator Zellnor Myrie, Brad Lander, the city’s comptroller, State Senator Jessica Ramos, former Comptroller Scott Stringer, State Assemblyman Zoharn Mamdani and former assembly member Michael Blake are in the running as well.

Adams is also running for re-election. The mayoral election is set for November 4.

Adams, who was considered a good pick for the job when he won in 2021, has since faced a major decline over his corruption indictment, his handling of illegal migrants in the city, and more pressing issues.

He was charged in September with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, federal program bribery, and receiving campaign contributions from foreign nationals.

The mayor is also accused of defrauding NYC taxpayers of $10million through allegedly fraudulent campaign funds.

Adams pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and claimed he has done nothing wrong after becoming the first mayor in the city’s history to face criminal charges while in office.

Recently, President Donald Trump’s Justice Department asked federal prosecutors to drop his corruption case.

Meanwhile, Cuomo, has put his name in the running, as many predicted he would due to Adams’ low ratings.
