Details of the first report of the National Food Safety Authority in 2025

 

The media center of the National Food Safety Authority issued its first weekly report for the year 2025, for the period from January 4 – 10, 2025, which included many activities initiated by the authority’s various departments, where the General Administration for Supervision of Factories received 45 oversight missions in cooperation with the Industrial Control Authority during the past week.

The number of examination, inspection and accreditation visits carried out by the Control Department to factories reached And the packing centers made 46 visits, and the administration issued 2,226 export permits for agricultural crops to 1,117 exporting companies.

The Authority also participated in the first round negotiations with the Emirati side regarding the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Partnership Agreement between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

The number of food consignments exported, according to the report of the General Administration for both Exports and Imports at the Authority, reached 5,200 consignments, about 200 thousand tons, to 1,520 companies. Exported, it varied between 650 types of vegetables, fruits, flour, and various food products.

Beans of all kinds topped the list of Egyptian vegetables exported during the past week with 9,000 tons, followed by all kinds of vegetables with a total of 8,000 tons, then tomatoes with a total of 7,000. tons, and the total number of exported types of vegetables reached 62 types, amounting to about 47 thousand tons.

Citrus fruits still top the list of fruits. Exported during the past week amounted to a total of 62 thousand tons, followed by strawberries with a total of 8 thousand tons, then dates with a total of 3 thousand tons. The total number of types of fruits exported reached 37 types with an amount of about 71 thousand tons.

Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Libya represented the largest countries. Receiving Egyptian exports during the past week from a total of 172 importing countries. 

Safaga Port ranked first in the number of Food consignments exported from it amounted to a total of 1,350 consignments, followed by Cairo Airport Port with 1,150 consignments, then Alexandria Port with a total of 460 consignments.

The number of incoming food consignments reached 1,450 consignments, amounting to approximately 191 thousand tons, to 740 importing companies, which varied between 210. Varieties of wheat, various oils, broad beans and soybeans, from 82 countries, with Russia being the largest country. Exported to Egypt, followed by Australia, Ukraine and Indonesia.

The port of Alexandria came first in the number of food consignments received with a total of 452 consignments, followed by the port of Damietta, which ranked second with 250 consignments, then the port of Cairo Airport with a total of 225 consignments.  

The General Administration for Special Food Registration and Licensing registered 22 products, 12 companies, and 1 factory, and carried out 4 monitoring visits, The administration also examined 402 new products and issued 14 free sale certificates.

The Strategic Commodities Administration carried out 23 inspection visits to rice mill sites, as well as 1 visit to wheat storage sites, and 3 rice trading facilities and 3 wheat storage facilities were registered.

The total number of complaints received to the Authority amounted to 46 complaints from various complaints receiving agencies (the electronic portal for the unified government complaints system – the Council of Ministers), the Consumer Protection Agency, in addition to complaints submitted directly to The Authority closed 30 complaints and 16 complaints are being examined.

The Complaints Department inspectors carried out campaigns on 444 food establishments to ensure the safety of food products offered in the governorates of Gharbia, Dakahlia, Beheira, Minya, Assiut, New Valley, and Kafr El-Sheikh. , Sohag, Aswan, North Sinai, Giza and 10th of Ramadan City, taking all necessary corrective measures in the event of any observations related to safety requirements. Food.

As stated in the report of the unified government complaints system during last December, the National Food Safety Authority dealt with 155 complaints and reports that included harm to some citizens from some merchants selling expired or spoiled products, or allegedly Some of the basic requirements for food safety are not available in some outlets and stores. The Authority dealt with these complaints by forming committees for inspection and examination immediately after complaints and reports were received, and 141 complaints were resolved. And a report from it, while continuing to examine and address the rest of the complaints, in coordination with the rest of the competent authorities.

It is worth noting that the National Food Safety Authority achieved, during the year 2024, an achievement rate of 99.73%, while the planned achievement was 98.23%. This confirms the Authority’s commitment to positive interaction and rapid response with the unified government complaints system, to meet the desires of citizens, and to ensure the necessity of providing healthy and safe food for all.

With regard to the activities of the Chain Control Department    And Suez.

681 public store establishments with food activity were registered, and the Public Store Registration and Licensing Department conducted 457 inspections of public stores, while 364 establishments met the requirements of the National Food Safety Authority during the past week.

p>The Storage Facilities Control Department carried out 17 oversight missions over food stores in the governorates of Qalyubia, Gharbia, Beheira, Dakahlia, Minya, Alexandria and Cairo.

20 storage facilities were registered, bringing the total number of warehouses registered with the National Food Safety Authority to 944.

With regard to the management of dairy suppliers, 13 oversight missions were carried out on Milk parlors and milk collection centers in the governorates of Beheira, Qalyubia, Kafr El-Sheikh, Sharkia and Gharbia.

With regard to the management of licensing and control of tourist facilities, it has 66 visits were carried out, including periodic monitoring and licensing inspections in the governorates  Cairo, Giza, the Red Sea, Alexandria, Fayoum and Aswan.

The Authority’s Grievances Committee examined 409 grievance requests received from various ports. 

The General Administration of Slaughterhouses conducted 9 inspection visits to Poultry slaughterhouses and intestine factories, in addition to 42 visits to follow up on the manufacturing of natural animal encapsulations in intestine factories.

The administration issued 15 permits. Export of natural animal packaging to European Union countries after collecting samples and ensuring that they comply with the requirements. The administration also carried out campaigns on some manual slaughterhouses in some neighborhoods of Ismailia Governorate in order to familiarize those in charge of them with food safety requirements.

 It also participated in The General Authority for Standardization and Quality committee met to discuss the standard for non-heat-treated meat.

The Department of Control of Food Contact Materials Factories carried out 12 missions. Oversight in the governorates of Giza, Qalyubia, Sharqia, Beheira, Menoufia and Gharbia, and 2 new facilities were registered last week with the National Food Safety Authority.

The General Administration for Fish and Aquatic Products Control carried out 24 supervisory visits on boats/ships. Fishing factories and fish suppliers, export companies and processing units, and 2 facilities were registered with the Authority during the past week.

As for the Authority’s inspection campaigns on markets in various governorates, they included As part of the efforts of the Authority’s branches to tighten and tighten control over food establishments in implementation of the directives of Dr. Tariq Al-Hobi, Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority, to ensure the safety of the food products offered and to preserve the health of consumers in various governorates.

The Food Safety Branch in Gharbia Governorate implemented 20 expanded inspection campaigns on 180 food establishments to ensure the implementation of food safety requirements in various cities and centers of the governorate (Tanta, Zefta, Qatour, Basyoun, Al-Santa, Kafr Al-Zayat, Al-Mahalla, Samanoud), and these campaigns resulted in the seizure of half a ton of black honey, 600 kg of edible oils, 300 kg of ground red pepper, all of which are food items unfit for human consumption, and 300 kg of expired meat.

And within the framework of the role Awareness and educational activities for the National Food Safety Authority to raise the level of public awareness towards improving food safety measures and promoting sound healthy food practices. 35 food establishments were visited and directions were directed towards… It is necessary to adhere to food safety requirements in these facilities, and to implement corrective measures, and based on these directives, 15 facilities were registered.

The food was also inspected and examined by the General Administration of Security, the Administration of the Security Forces, and the rehabilitation and correctional centers in the governorate. And supervising the supply of meat and poultry to hospitals in Gharbia Governorate.

The Food Safety Branch in Damietta Governorate implemented 5 expanded inspection campaigns in conjunction with (the Deputy Head of the Local Unit). The Center and City, Supply Directorate, Health Administration, Supply Administration, Supply Control, Slaughterhouse Administration, General Office of the Governorate) targeted 41 food establishments within the scope of the Center and City of Zarqa and Al-Sarru. These campaigns resulted in the destruction of a quantity of various foodstuffs that had expired and had changed natural properties, and an operation was carried out.   In the presence of representatives of the Food Safety Authority and members of the formed committee, 124 kg of expired foodstuffs with changed natural properties and others showing signs of spoilage were seized (meat and its products, poultry).

The Food Safety Branch in Dakahlia Governorate carried out 19 inspection campaigns. Some of them are shared with other regulatory bodies (City Council Presidency, Health Directorate, Veterinary Medicine, Supply, Supply Investigations, Consumer Protection Agency),  116 food facilities were visited in centers and some villages within the governorate (Mit Ghamr, Sinbillawin, Beni Abeid, and Mansoura), and these campaigns resulted in the destruction of a quantity of food items unfit for human consumption.

The Salama Authority branch carried out Food in Sohag Governorate carried out a number of joint inspection campaigns with the General Administration of Supply and Veterinary Medicine, the Supply and Health Investigations, and the Consumer Protection Agency, where a number of food establishments in food centers were visited. (Tahta, Tama). These campaigns resulted in the destruction of a quantity of various expired food items of unknown origin and unfit for human consumption.

 The branch also carried out 5 inspection campaigns on 21 food establishments within villages. And the centers (Sohag Center, Akhmim, Sharq District), and a quantity of food items that had expired and were not fit for human consumption were destroyed. A warning was also issued to food establishments that were not registered with the Authority. It is necessary to register, complete licensing procedures, and implement food safety requirements.

The branch of the Food Safety Authority in Aswan Governorate implemented a number of inspection campaigns, passing through 10 food establishments. These campaigns resulted in the destruction of a quantity of expired food supplies. It is not suitable for human consumption. The owners of food establishments have also been made aware of improving food safety measures, and pledges have been taken to implement the necessary requirements and register with the National Authority for Food Safety. Food.

The Food Safety Branch in Assiut Governorate carried out 4 inspection campaigns on 17 food establishments, which resulted in the destruction of a quantity of expired food products (juices, cheeses, sweets, etc.), and pledges were also taken on establishments that were not Registered with the Authority by registering and implementing food safety requirements.

The Food Safety Branch in Minya Governorate implemented 3 inspection campaigns in cooperation with other regulatory authorities on 10 food establishments, These campaigns resulted in the destruction of a quantity of expired foodstuffs due to apparent signs of spoilage, and undertakings were taken from establishments not registered with the National Food Safety Authority to register and commit to implementing the Authority’s requirements and completing licensing procedures.
