Deputy Foreign Minister: Egypt is committed to continuing cooperation with African peoples

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, Ambassador Abu Bakr Hafni Mahmoud, affirmed that Egypt will remain committed to continuing the process of cooperation with the peoples of our African continent, and adheres to civilizational values ​​and its moral obligations in managing its foreign policy towards African countries, while being keen to develop its diplomatic tools to deal with… The emerging challenges and immediate concerns facing our continent.

This came in the speech delivered by Ambassador Abu Bakr Hafni Mahmoud – who attended on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration – at the annual ceremony of the Kemet Boutros-Ghali Foundation for Peace and Knowledge, and handed over the Foundation’s annual award to the Mozambican activist and politician “Gracea Machel”, wife of the late South African leader Nelson Mandela.

 

He said that the great legacy of the African activist Garca Machel is a source of inspiration for all Africans, following the success of her struggle and the struggle of her companions in eliminating… Colonization and the achievement of national liberation in Mozambique. She was the first Minister of Education in her country and during her tenure in this position she achieved remarkable breakthroughs. The percentage of children enrolled in schools in her country jumped dramatically in record time, in what can be considered a source of inspiration for many peoples of the continent to this day. 

He praised its continuous achievements over the years, its distinction in pioneering many charitable and humanitarian works, and adopting issues that concern the African continent and the world, especially combating poverty and spare children from the scourge of armed conflicts, and she also worked tirelessly to support the provision of health care for women and children and to defend women’s rights and empower them.

 

He continued that the “Machel” journey She has won regional and international appreciation, and has deservedly won the respect of many international institutions and bodies. I mention, for example, obtaining the Nansen Award from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in recognition of her contributions to defending the issues of refugees and displaced persons, and the Golden Medal from the World Health Organization. In appreciation of her efforts in promoting health care for women, children and adolescents.

 

He added:" This history full of struggle and giving did not hinder her from being a great mother. Her daughter who is with us today, who lost her father, the hero of Mozambique’s independence and the great African leader Samora Machel, at the age of ten, is a known activist for defending women’s rights and combating domestic violence. And the founder of one of the most prominent African associations to combat discrimination against women."

 

He pointed out that "Garça Machel" She was also a companion of the immortal African leader Nelson Mandela… this symbol who fought steadfastly to uphold the values ​​of freedom, equality and justice, after he contributed to liberating his people from racism and ethnic discrimination and became a source of inspiration for the values ​​of tolerance and impartiality for all the peoples of the earth.

 

He said that it is not possible to talk about all these symbols without noting the common African legacy in the fight against colonialism and apartheid, which bears the greatest burden. The African founding fathers, who struggled with strong determination and solid will, despite the enormous challenges, to rid the peoples of the continent of colonialism, dependency, and oppression.

 

He highlighted the place of birth of Garcia Machel in the “Gaza” province. ; In southern Mozambique, pointing to the efforts she made within the Group of Elders, which she participated in inaugurating in 2007 with a group of honorable and free people from the world… to adopt the defense of many international issues, the struggle of the Palestinian people at the forefront.

The Deputy Foreign Minister stressed that the world is in dire need now more than ever to listen to the voice of “Garça Machel”, the voice of truth, justice and reason. And logic to stop this madness that has been sweeping the world for more than a year without stopping.

 

He praised the presented award that bears the name of an Egyptian-African symbol whom Egypt and the continent have long been proud of, namely Dr. Boutros Boutros Ghali, who His career as the first African Secretary-General of the United Nations embodied his pride in his African affiliation and his belief in the universality of the principles of the peoples of our continent, which call for tolerance, cooperation, peace, rejection of injustice, and response. Aggression.

 

The Deputy Foreign Minister extended his thanks and appreciation to the Kemet Boutros-Ghali Foundation for Peace and Knowledge and its honorary president, “Leah Nadler.” Companion on the path of Dr. Boutros Ghali.

 

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Abu Bakr Hafni, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, saluted Mamdouh Abbas for commemorating one of its loyal sons (Botros Ghali), and to the Ambassador Laila Bahaa El-Din, Executive Director of the Foundation.

 

At the end of his speech, he saluted the professor of successive generations of Egyptian diplomats, ministers and politicians. And the thinker Amr Moussa, who was honored by the Boutros Ghali Foundation, said: “He continues to enrich diplomatic work and political life in Egypt with his ideas that always come from outside the box, and his rich life experience during which he assumed many tasks has placed him in a special place in the hearts of Egyptians.”
