Denmark’s Prime Minister responds to Trump’s bid to buy Greenland as Don Jr. arrives in the territory
Greenland is not for sale, insists Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
Donald Trump Jr. landed in chilly, arctic island territory on Tuesday morning for a surprise trip amid his father’s latest threats to purchase it from Denmark.
But Frederiksen said on Tuesday that Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte Egede ‘has been very, very clear’ that they don’t intend to become part of the U.S.
‘There is a lot of support among the people of Greenland that Greenland is not for sale and will not be in the future either,’ Frederiksen insisted.
While multiple people said Don Jr.’s trip to Greenland is ‘personal’ and not political, the president-elect noted how his son was joined by his ‘representatives.’
Trump also made it clear that his son’s trip is intended to further his goal of the U.S. purchasing Greenland.
But the chairman of one of the largest political parties in Greenland denied a meeting with Don Jr. and reiterated that Greenland is not up for grabs.
Siumut party leader Erik Jensen told the press: ‘I can confirm that I have not planned to meet with him. I say it again that Greenland is not for sale and never will be.’
‘Everyone is welcome to visit our country, including Trump,’ he added. ‘When the future president’s son, who is also his own advisor, shows interest in our country, it means that Greenland is serious.’
Don Jr. posted multiple videos and photos from Greenland on Tuesday morning.

But President-elect Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday a post that suggests the trip is political by noting his ‘representatives’ went to Greenland with his eldest son
James Blair joins him on the visit to Greenland. Blair is incoming as deputy chief of staff for legislative, political and public affairs for Trump’s second presidential term. He was the 2024 campaign’s political director and oversaw a ground game seeking to reach low-propensity voters.
Also on the trip are conservative Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk and Sergio Gor, with whom Don co-owns Winning Team Publishing.
And Trump made it clear on his social media site that the trip is meant to move forward his intentions to have the U.S. buy Greenland in his second term.
‘Don Jr. and my Reps landing in Greenland,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday. ‘The reception has been great. They, and the Free World, need safety, security, strength, and PEACE!’
‘This is a deal that must happen,’ he insisted. ‘MAGA. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!’
During lunch with community members in Nuuk, Greenland, Don Jr. put his father on speakerphone so he could have a quick word with the locals.
Sources told DailyMail.com ahead of the trip that Don planned to shoot video and podcasting content and insisted he is not meeting with any government officials or political figures.
Some reports suggested the president-elect’s oldest son was visiting at the request of Jensen, who is Greenland’s minister of finance and supports the independence of Greenland.
Jensen now denies he intends to meet with Don.
Don Jr. posted images of himself and Charlie Kirk and Sergio Gor in front of the statue of Hans Egede, the Danish-Norwegian missionary who led mission efforts in Greenland during the late 1700s. Don Jr. also posted an image of the runway staff at the airport in Greenland
