According to Anadolu Agency, the demonstrators protesting against the results of the parliamentary elections in Baghdad closed the so-called “Green Zone” in the city, where most foreign diplomatic missions are located, including the US embassy.
An Iraqi security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the agency that “additional security and military forces” had been deployed in the area to prevent protesters from storming the area.
The assembly is awaiting the ruling of the Iraqi Federal Court in the case of Hadi al-Amiri, who challenged the results of the October 10 elections. It was won by the Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr’s bloc, who won 73 out of 329 seats in parliament.
