Toccororo has had quite the summer. “I feel like I’m in many places and nowhere at the same time,” she tells Dazed at the peak of her schedule in between bookings in New York and Berlin. After a simmering rise following her 2022 Boiler Room debut, the theatrical Cuban-Spanish DJ hit a rolling boil this year with some of the most prestigious bookings for a DJ today – including Barcelona’s Primavera Sound, Amsterdam’s Dekmantel, the UK’s NTS radio station and Berlin’s iconic Herrensauna club.
This run culminated in Toccororo hosting and performing at Charli xcx’s iconic Boiler Room show in Ibiza. Known for performing as much to the camera as to the decks, this was a perfect booking for Toccororo, whipping the hometown Spanish crowd up into a frenzy with her distinct blend of vocal samples from the Latin-speaking world and hardcore club rhythms. It’s no surprise that she has been branded the queen of the Spanish club scene.
In between these globetrotting bookings, and taking breaks to see her family (“otherwise they’ll be mad,” she tells Dazed), Toccororo has prepared a “dark, sexy and funny” exclusive mix. Catch the full set, as well as a list of her musical inspirations and the vibe she most wants to see at the club, below.
You recently played a Boiler Room with Charli xcx, how did that come about?
Toccororo: Yes, I opened, hosted, and (unexpectedly) played the closing. Crazy, right? When Boiler Room contacted me, I was in shock – I have never hosted anything before. The lineup was incredible, happening in Amnesia Ibiza, for Charli xcx. The whole combination was just insane, and I knew everyone would be there. It was quite a big moment but also frightening. I’m really glad to have had the opportunity. The Boiler Room team has always been very supportive of me and my career.
Also, closing Amnesia’s main room surrounded by my people and being able to hear my music there was definitely a life goal checked.
What sort of energy do you like to bring to the decks?
Toccororo: Dark, sexy and funny energy.
What do you like most about the club? What sort of vibe are you after?
Toccororo: How people go feral (because of music). That’s the energy I want to see in my sets.
What’s the worst advice you’ve ever been given? And the best?
Toccororo: The worst? Always read the crowd. The best? Don’t forget to enjoy it.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Toccororo: I’ve been obsessed with the work of Florence Sinclair these past few months. I’m also really into “Bikini” by Nick Leon and Erika de Casier.
Plus, the latest release from the Mexican label Ofensa, “DELICIAS”, is amazing. It’s their second compilation and includes some tracks from my favourite American producers like Ruido con H, Entrañas, OJOSBONITOS, and SAPPHIR22.
Tell us about your Dazed mix:
Toccororo: Very mindful, very demure, very healing, very club 🙂
