The village of Dayrout Al-Sharif, affiliated with the center of Dayrout in the far north of Assiut Governorate, is considered a citadel for the pottery industry, whose products roam the governorates of Upper Egypt.

Ahmed Sayed Abboud, one of the pottery makers, tells us how he inherited the profession from his grandfathers since he was young, by watching his grandfather work. He draws various pottery vessels, including: ”al-qalil, al-zeir, cooking utensils, and plant vases””

He continued: “After two days of preparing the clay dough, we make The pots are in different shapes and we leave them in the sun for a week in the winter, while they are left in the sun for 3 days in the summer It dries.

Abboud continued: After ensuring that the pots are dry, we prepare a kiln to burn the pottery, in which the pots are placed on the eyes of the kiln until the flames surround them from all directions. The pots are covered inside the flames and left overnight. In the morning, we take out the pots for marketing.

He pointed out that despite the development in the utensils industry, pottery maintains its position because of its safe health properties.
