In a new step aimed at enhancing transparency and effectiveness in the work of the Human Rights Council, the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights launched a specialized indicator to assess the performance of the member states of the council, this indicator is the first of its kind and depends on measuring the extent of the commitment of member states to the voluntary pledges they presented For the General Assembly during their candidacy for membership of the Council, the launch of this index came on the sidelines of the Foundation’s participation in the 48th session of the comprehensive periodic review mechanism.
& nbsp; Measuring the effectiveness of the member states in the council in multiple areas, such as caring for decisions during the council’s sessions, and effective participation, in addition to the state’s commitment to their voluntary pledges. The index also addresses the contribution of countries to the regular budget of the United Nations, and the measurement of their commitment to strengthening human rights in accordance with the General Assembly Resolution No. 251 /60 who established the Human Rights Council.
