Dave Portnoy taunts Angel Reese as Chicago Sky lose SEVENTH straight WNBA game to leave playoff place at growing risk

Dave Portnoy taunts Angel Reese as Chicago Sky lose SEVENTH straight WNBA game to leave playoff place at growing risk

Dave Portnoy repeated his attacks on Angel Reese as Chicago Sky were emphatically beaten 71-90 by Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA on Tuesday night – the team’s seventh straight loss.

Reese scored 12 points on the night for her team but the loss by 19 points leaves her Sky team with work to do for what is an increasingly perilous situation in the battle for the WNBA playoffs.

Chicago holds the final position, in eight, but the 11-22 record for the season is level with the Atlanta Dream, who are ninth. Fortunately for Reese and her team, the Dream lost on Tuesday night too, to Phoenix Mercury.

Barstool Sports owner Portnoy is an avid Caitlin Clark fan and has regularly criticized Reese amid her rivalry with the Indiana Fever star. And when Sky were trailing 31-47 at halftime in Vegas, Portnoy didn’t miss an opportunity to celebrate Reese’s struggles.

‘Angel fixing to go off in 2nd half vs Vegas,’ Portnoy sarcastically wrote. ‘Down 20 at half. She’s got 5 pts, 1/5 from field (20%), 8 boards.

‘Its (sic) officially Angel time. She goes demon mode in situations like these.’

As well as scoring 12 points, Reese also ended with 16 rebounds and three assists in 31 minutes in Vegas.

Reese has been mooted all season as Clark’s biggest rival to winning WNBA rookie of the year this season, something Portnoy has repeatedly dismissed.

Portnoy even put $100,000 on Indiana Fever winning the WNBA title thanks to Clark’s impact on the team – a bet that would win Portnoy $10million if it comes off.

Clark and Indiana Fever, who are 17-16 for the season, are back in action on Wednesday night against Los Angeles Sparks.

And the Sparks are the next opponent for Reese and Sky on Friday night in Los Angeles.

The Sparks have the worst record in the WNBA at 7-25 but with Chicago seemingly in freefall, there is no easy game for Reese and her team in order to return to winning ways.

‘This league is so good that if you soak in a loss, you will not be good for the next game,’ Dana Evans, Reese’s teammate, said after the game. Reese did not make an appearance in the post-game press conference.

‘We have just got to be ready to play. We are not going to give up, we are not going to quit, we want to get in the playoffs. We are going to stay together.’
