Dave Portnoy rips Yankees in brutal 4am tweet after blowing 5-0 lead to lose World Series to Dodgers
Dave Portnoy woke up in the middle of the night to tear into the New York Yankees, after Aaron Judge’s team surrendered a 5-0 lead to lose the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It started so well for the Yankees – Aaron Judge returned to form with a home run off the first ball he faced and Jazz Chisholm followed him next up.
Giancarlo Stanton also homered with the Yankees storming into a 5-0 lead. At that point, Portnoy went to bed and missed New York’s fifth inning meltdown.
Judge dropped a routine catch in center field – his first error all year – to spark the collapse before pitcher Gerrit Cole didn’t cover Anthony Rizzo at first for what would have been an easy out on Mookie Betts to end the inning.
Anthony Volpe also threw the ball to Jazz Chisholm on third when the out at first was on in an inning laden with errors for the Yankees, as the Dodgers hauled themselves back to 5-5.
Dave Portnoy was thrilled to see the Yankees collapsed to lose the World Series to the Dodgers
It was a night to forget for Aaron Judge and his team, despite a superb start in New York
The Yankees retook the lead again, only for the Dodgers to snatch it back once more and go on to win a series-clinching game 8-7 at Yankee Stadium.
According to the time of his post on X, Portnoy posted at 3:49am after checking the score – he couldn’t believe what he had seen.
‘I just woke up and checked the Yankees score. They lost!!!!’ Portnoy wrote with 17 crying-with-laughter emojis. ‘How did they blow that!
‘I think I’d rather go 0-162 than make it to the playoffs and get embarrassed on a national stage like they did. Holy s***’.
To his credit, Yankees captain Judge accepted his error was costly in the fifth.
‘You can’t give a good team like that extra outs,’ Judge said. ‘It starts with me there on the line drive coming in. I misplayed that.
‘So that doesn´t happen, then I think we´ve got a different story tonight. I just didn´t make the play.’
