Dandenong: Woman left fighting for life after being mauled by three dogs that had to be shot dead by police

A woman is fighting for life after she was attacked by three dogs in a backyard.

Emergency services were called to a house on Ross Street in Dandenong, Melbourne’s southeast, just before 10am on Thursday.

Police attempted to break up the attack by using capsicum spray on the animals but the dogs continued mauling the woman, aged in her 20s, and had to be shot dead.

The woman remains in a critical condition at the Dandenong Hospital and police are investigating.

It remains unclear if the woman owned the dogs or lived at the home where the attack occurred.

Photos captured by Seven News appear to show the bodies of the three dogs in the backyard.

The breeds of the dogs are believed to be two American bulldogs and a pit bull, Nine News reported.

Police remain at the scene.
