Create a car that absorbs carbon dioxide from the air

The new car prototype can absorb carbon dioxide from the air.

Carbon dioxide is the number one factor in global warming caused by human activities. To combat it, you can either reduce emissions of this gas or capture it from the atmosphere.

The car was created by students from the Technical University of Eindhoven. It is powered by an electric motor powered by a battery. The monocoque and body panels are 3D printed to reduce material costs.

Recycled materials have been used as much as possible in the manufacture of the plastic parts to reduce the carbon footprint. The window glass was replaced by polycarbonate, and the upholstery was made of artificial leather obtained by processing the pulp of pineapple leaves.

The car is equipped with a recovery device that operates during braking to reduce energy consumption, and solar panels are located on the roof and hood.

The car also has a CO2 capture system similar to a regular coolant. According to the developers, about 2 kg of carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere every 20,600 km at a speed of about 60 km / h. After filling the cylinder, it is planned to release gas into the tank at the charging station.

The authors of the idea did not offer suggestions as to what to do with this gas further, however, they – believe that with extensive use, these machines will clean the atmosphere and reduce the greenhouse effect.
