Conclusion of the activities of the workshop on documenting and digitizing heritage at the Italian Cultural Institute

The activities of the Italian-Egyptian international workshop on documentation, digitization and information technology for heritage, which was held from November 23 to 25, 2024, concluded at the headquarters of the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo. which was attended by all The Doctor Maurizio Guerra, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute, and Dr. Raffaello Pentagelo Italian Cultural Attaché, Dr. Guiseppe Cercere Director of the Italian Archaeological Center.

 

 

The workshop was opened by Professor Dr. Badawy Ismail, former dean of the Faculty of Archeology, Luxor University and founder of the Future Egypt Foundation, and Professor Dr. Giuseppe Cercere Director of the Italian Antiquities Center and Dr. Mahmoud Al-Shandidi, General Director of the Cultural Heritage Center at the Future Egypt Foundation.

The workshop included many important topics and discussions  About documenting tangible and intangible heritage, techniques and applications of artificial intelligence in heritage preservation, mechanisms and strategies for preserving and digitizing heritage..

The workshop also presented valuable lectures and effective participation from experts and researchers from Egyptian and Italian universities and researchers from many countries, including Ethiopia, India, Algeria, Nigeria, Cyprus, and Bangladesh.

 

 

It also included contributions from senior professors in the fields of cultural heritage and heritage documentation: Prof. Dr. Fikry Hassan, former head of the Cultural Heritage Management Program at the French University in Cairo, and Professor Dr. Yasser Al-Shayeb, Professor of Engineering at Cairo University and Prof. Dr. Mona Haggag, Professor of Archeology at Alexandria University and   The great writer, Dr. Mahmoud Khalil, former director general of the Holy Quran Radio, Dr. Mustafa Ali, professor of archeology, and many professors and experts.

 

The workshop concluded with the importance of modern technology as an effective tool in protecting heritage and developing mechanisms for documenting it. Providing recommendations for preserving and digitizing heritage.
