Conclusion of project work "Accelerating the elimination of child labor in Africa’s supply chains"

Dr. Sahar Al-Sunbati, President of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, confirmed that depriving a child of education causes harm that does not only affect him; Rather, it is for the nation, so it was necessary for all of us to unite, which is what happened, as we made remarkable progress in protecting and supporting children.

Al-Sunbati said: The project to accelerate the elimination of child labor in supply chains in Africa had within it a noble goal, which was to reduce the exploitation of children in labor and protect their rights. It was not a passing initiative, but a collective commitment to the responsibility of all of us towards our children to ensure their right to a decent life, education, and growth in an environment Safe and free from all forms of exploitation that may hinder their journey towards a better tomorrow.

This came during the ceremony organized by the International Labor Organization office in Cairo, in the presence of Mohamed Gibran, Minister of Labor, to announce the conclusion of the work of the “Accelerating the Elimination” project. Al-Sunbati explained: During the project’s work period, we strived in cooperation with all relevant local and international partners, including government institutions and civil society organizations, to achieve the maximum benefit for children and give them the opportunity to become active elements in society, stressing that this achievement would not have been achieved without the dedication of the teams working in this project and without the community’s awareness. The desired goals were achieved, saying, “Today, with the announcement of the end of the project, this does not mean that the mission is over, but the real success lies in investing in this success and building on the efforts that have been made.”

Al-Sunbati added, In light of the directives of the political leadership to support childhood in Egypt and reduce the challenges that hinder the child’s development, education, and well-being, protecting children’s rights is no longer an option, but rather a national, humanitarian, and legal duty that requires everyone’s commitment. International conventions, most notably the Convention on the Rights of the Child, have recognized that every child has the right. In education, health care, and growth in an environment free of violence and exploitation.

Al-Sunbati said: Today, as we celebrate the completion of this project, we can say that we  We have made tangible progress in combating child labor, and we must all move forward to ensure the continuity of this success, monitor the conditions of children, provide the necessary support to them and their families, and work to strengthen legislation and policies that protect children’s rights.

Al-Sunbati stressed: The National Council for Childhood and Motherhood attaches special importance to eliminating the phenomenon of work  Children. Child labor not only threatens children’s rights, but also results in serious social, economic, and health consequences. At the national level, child labor significantly reduces the quality of human capital. This is what hinders Egypt from achieving the sustainable development goals, pointing out that despite all the efforts made, the phenomenon of child labor still poses a major challenge in many societies around the world, as the number of working children is estimated at about 160 million working children around the world according to reports. The International Labor Organization and UNICEF, which was issued in 2020, indicate that many children, instead of being in schools receiving their education, some of these children find themselves in dangerous work environments that rob them of their rights and hinder their development and psychological and physical stability. ;, that, within the framework of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood is currently working within the “Bedaya” initiative. For Human Development, which is an initiative concerned with the development of the Egyptian human being with the aim of investing in human capital through an action program targeting human development and working to consolidate  Egyptian identity through strengthening efforts, coordination and integration between all state agencies in the various governorates of the Republic.
