Comedian Lewis Spears Says He Lost Followers Since FBoy Island

Australian comedian and enemy of the British Royal Family Lewis Spears has answered the question of “does reality TV make people famous?” once and for all, by sharing exactly what happened to his follower count since going on the second season of Abbie Chatfield‘s FBoy Island Australia.

In an Instagram Reel posted on Monday, the 30-year-old comedian announced that he had finally regained control of his social media accounts, after losing access to them while on FBoy Island.

For those not in the know, it’s become a standard procedure for reality shows to take over their contestant’s social media pages while the show airs, as not to have anyone have a rogue rant online about a “dodgy edit” — or whatever the people on MAFS whine about.

However, now that the second season of FBoy Island Australia has finished, Lewis Spears (@LewSpears) was able to return and quip to his fans that he could “finally” stop posting about the reality TV show.

“Finally, got my account back. No more FBoy Island posts, let’s go!” Spears cheered.

“That was fun wasn’t it? Finally, now I don’t have to post about that anymore.”

Though Lewis didn’t have much screen time over his stint on the show, he was a regular face on the FBoy Island Australia social accounts.

Unfortunately, he was eliminated four episodes in when it was discovered he was only on the FBoy Island island to create material for an upcoming comedy special. Way to commit to a bit!

Speaking to PEDESTRIAN.TV, the comedian sarcastically claimed he went on the show to seek fame.

“I was on season two of a niche, online, satirical, reality dating show, geo-locked to Australian viewers only, on a streaming platform called Binge, that other countries can’t even pay for a subscription to,” Lewis said.

“I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life… FBoy Island was going to make me world famous.”

Now back in charge of his social media pages, Spears told his audience that the entire show was a “fun experience”, and joked about how it happened so quickly after a facial reconstruction surgery to resolve severe obstructive sleep apnea caused by a recessed jaw and a very narrow upper palate.

“It’s good to know that within a month of getting a new jawline I was on a reality TV show for beautiful people… and me,” he quipped.

Lewis Spears reports a loss in followers after FBoy Island Australia

Self deprecating jokes aside, Lewis Spears then addressed the top question that people had asked him since going on a reality TV show: why did he do it?

“The number one question I get asked is: ‘Does reality TV show make people famous anymore, is that why you did it, Lewis?’” said the comedian.

“And I’m happy to report that after being on a full season of one of the biggest dating shows in the country, I lost 200 followers.”

Spears then shared a graph depicting trends in his follower count, which showed that he had in fact lost 100 more followers than the amount he reported.

Which is lowkey a surprise, given how typically an appearance on such a show would boost even the worst person on the show’s follower count. But the drop in followers didn’t bother the comedian, who instead said that he was glad he “got rid of the unfaithful followers”.

“If you unfollowed, those posts are over. Welcome back!” Spears laughed.

However, after checking again, it turns out he actually lost even more followers than he initially thought.

“Unfortunately, now that I have my account back, upon checking my analytics I see that I actually lost 745 followers,” he told PEDESTRIAN.TV.

“I’m devastated, I only have 75,424 followers. I might as well be a normal person with a normal job… a loser!!”

When asked if he had any reflections on his time on the show, Spears gave some wise advice to any men looking to learn from what got him kicked off the show.

“I’ve learned that asking a girl if you can sniff her toes will get you eliminated immediately,” he said, referring to his unexpected request during a challenge.

Good advice to live by gents. Thanks for that one to think on, Lewis.
