College threatens to eject fans for ‘slandering’ chants about under-fire coach amid disastrous form
A stern warning was issued to Purdue supporters after chanting against Boilermakers football coach Ryan Walters.
The university’s football team has struggled with a 1-8 start this season. With Walters at the helm, he has taken much of the blame for their unappealing record.
Even Purdue fans made their displeasure known with ‘Fire Walters’ chants raining at Mackey Arena during their men’s basketball game against Northern Kentucky last week.
As a result, a message was sent out to members of the student section, also known as the Paint Crew, ahead of their showdown against Yale on Monday.
‘Paint Crew Members,’ the statement read. ‘Our next game will be tomorrow, November 11th at 8:00 pm against Yale.

‘We have a strong reputation and we are well respected around college basketball for having class. That being said we will not participate in any chants slandering our own coaches/players or the other teams coaches/players.
‘Anyone participating in any such chants including chanting about our football coach, may be removed and have their membership revoked for the season.’
The message drew plenty of attention since it was sent out to members by an unidentified person associated with the Paint Crew’s social media accounts.
IndyStar reported that the athletics department at Purdue advised the group to release a statement “condemning the negative activity that a chant like that brings.”
While the source of the statement remains unclear, the viral screenshot was met with laughter on X.
‘They gonna ban 5k students? lmfao,’ one user wrote.
‘Instead of taking accountability our AD decides to be soft as f***,’ another added. ‘Please fire yourselves with that bum you hired when Curt Cignetti was available.’
‘Hopefully there are nothing but fire Walters chants,’ a third responded.
Purdue’s basketball team won the game, 92-84, to improve to 3-0. Meanwhile, their football team will likely extend their eight-game skid with Penn State, Michigan State, and Indiana next up on the schedule.
Walters took over the program last year and missed the playoffs with a 4-8 overall record.
