Cold snap sends temperatures plummeting across Australia in sad sign summer is coming to an end

Cool winds will cause temperatures to plummet across southeastern Australia as Antarctic winds blow in from the Southern Ocean.
Victoria experienced the chilliest February morning since 1993 on Sunday, with a cold front responsible for the frigid 5C temperatures.
The system dumped snow in some parts of Tasmania and Victoria, including Dinner Plain and Mount Buller.
Sub-zero temperatures were also recorded across parts of New South Wales, the ACT, and Tasmania on Monday morning.
The cool air mass is expected to linger for several days this week before warmer temperatures return on the weekend.
‘The whole of southeastern Australia experienced a strong unseasonable chill as well as a drop in humidity which made the cool dry air feel all the more brisk,’ Weatherzone meteorologists wrote.
‘The cool air from systems like these generally takes a few days to dissipate, and mild temperatures will prevail in the southeast for much of the working week before heat returns toward the weekend.’
