Al-Sunbati explained: Female genital mutilation, known as “circumcision,” It is one of the most severe forms of violence practiced against girls, and it is considered a practice that does not respect the ethics of the medical profession. Rather, it is a harmful practice that has no medical reasons and is not based on medical evidence and does not result in any benefit, but rather causes serious damage in the short and long term to physical and psychological health. And fertility, and it is also considered a violation of Egyptian law, which criminalizes this practice and which does not rely on a religious authority, especially after Al-Azhar Al-Sharif issued an explicit fatwa in 2016 prohibiting circumcision.
