And they’re off! St Patrick’s Thursday is underway at Cheltenham – a fascinating Mares Novices’ Hurdle to kick us off.
It was another messy start, as we saw so many times yesterday. They don’t get away first time but do on the second occasion.

1.20: Ryanair Mares Novices’ Hurdle
A 24-strong field for the opening race of St Patrick’s Thursday then. This Ryanair Mares Novices’ Hurdle could well be gloriously messy! It will be a stunner if all 24 make it to the finish line – you’d think there will be a pull-up or two.
Keith Donoghue, who won on Stumptown yesterday, rides the favourite Sixandahalf, while the JJ Slevin-steered Galileo Dame is also much fancied.
Aurora Vega appears to be Willie Mullins’ preferred horse, with Paul Townend aboard, ahead of his other offerings such as Maughreen and Karoline Banbou.
Meanwhile, the iconic Rachael Blackmore has a chance of her first winner of the festival as she rides 22/1 shot Air Of Entitlement.
