Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson seeks answers from CAF after he and Mo Salah are both left OFF shortlist for 2024 African Player of the Year award
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced its 10-man shortlist for the 2024 men’s African Player of the Year award on Thursday.
Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain right back Achraf Hakimi was among the nominees, as was Nigeria and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman.
Ivory Coast and Brighton winger Simon Adingra was the only Premier League player to make the list, which also included Amine Gouiri, Edmond Tapsob, Chancel Mbemba, Serhou Guirassy, Soufiane Rahimi, William Troost-Ekong and Ronwen Williams.
Among the star names to miss out on a nomination were Senegalese Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson and Liverpool’s Egyptian king Mohamed Salah.
Jackson reacted to news of his snub on his Instagram story, where he shared a post by journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Romano had initially uploaded a photo of Salah, alongside the words: ‘Some of the players left OUT of the list for the African Player of the Year 2024 released today…
‘Mo Salah, Mohammed Kudus, Brahim Diaz, Victor Boniface and Nicolas Jackson.’
As well as reposting Romano’s message, Jackson added a few words of his own.
The 23-year-old asked: ‘What happened @CAF_online’?
Jackson scored 17 goals in 44 games for Chelsea last season, but he has only netted one goal in 12 international appearances for Senegal in 2024.
