CHANEL has just released its Spring-Summer makeup collection, created by Comètes Collective artist Ammy Drammeh. The theme is ‘colourmatch’, and plays with pastel tones either worn monochromatically, or all at once.
There’s peach, mint and gold, but I can’t stop thinking about the mauve. The colour comes through in two products specifically: Rouge Coco Baume Shine in Charming Lilac, and Ombré Essentielle shadow in Lilas Poudré. You can see them in all their saturated glory below (these specific images were created by Ammy to tell the story of each shade in greater detail).
Since the creation of the Cometes Collective, CHANEL Beauty has been adventurous with its use of colour, especially in limited seasonal collections. While collaborative, each seasonal offering is led by one artist, in this case Ammy. She explains her main source of inspiration is traditional use of colour within the house of CHANEL, in the form of colour blocking (Karl Lagerfeld did a lot of this) and also combining unconventional colour combinations. The beauty collection follows a similar suit: you can buy a complimentary lipstick and singular eye shadow (i.e. purple), or mix and match to your heart’s desire.
Purple in all forms has gripped makeup in the last 18 months. Purple blush happened on TikTok towards the end of 2024, while holographic lilac and lavender has been finding its way into highlighters and lip gloss since the cult of Euphoria.
But with beauty bound to colour-driven micro trends like mocha and strawberry, I’m predicting CHANEL’s opaque, cool-toned mauve is the next big thing. Plus, CHANEL is known for selling out of limited shades all the time.
The rest of the Spring-Summer makeup collection includes a multi-use highlighter palette, shades of single eyeshadow, two hues of mascara (black and a burnt amber), eyeliner and nail polish. The minty ‘Artiste’ is my pick. Shop the colour story below.
