Championship club plotting late move for Liverpool midfielder before January transfer window closes

Championship club Middlesbrough are showing an interest in doing a late deal to sign Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton.

Morton stuck around at the Anfield club in the summer despite mass interest from sides in England and on the continent with Bayer Leverkusen one of those pushing.

However, he has hardly had a look-in outside of cup competitions.

The 22-year-old has not played a minute of Premier League football this season and has been used only in domestic cups as well as last week’s Champions League dead rubber against PSV.

Boro, who have Liverpool’s Ben Doak on loan, are keen on him on a permanent deal. Michael Carrick’s team play rivals Sunderland on Monday night.

It has been a very quiet month for Liverpool and even the transfer rumour mill has barely mentioned the club.

Slot believes his squad is very strong and, from his very first day at the club, insisted that he will not sign players for the sake of it.

It’s hard to argue that the Reds are in any real need of additions, having finished top of the Champions League table and currently sitting six points clear in the Premier League with a game in hand.

In terms of outgoings, academy midfielder Tom Hill completed a permanent move to League Two side Harrogate Town, while goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga returned to Brazil and former club Fluminense.
