Champions League final stadium for 2027 LEAKED by the host country after San Siro was stripped of the game

The Champions League final stadium for 2027 has been leaked by the host country after San Siro was stripped of the game.

San Siro, the famous home of both AC and Inter Milan in Italy, had been due to stage the showpiece contest before being losing the hosting rights due to construction work at the venue.

Work then began to find a new hosts and it has emerged that the final will be held in Spain, rather than Italy.

Atletico Madrid put themselves forward as hosts back in October, with the Metropolitano Stadium, which has been their home since the 2017-18 season and holds over 70,000 fans, as their candidate.

The Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan was the other option, but it seems the decision has now been decided – as revealed by a Spanish official.

Royal Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzan recently spoke on his pride of Spain’s recent success in terms of hosting big matches, and revealed details that had not yet been made public.

Louzan said: ‘This year Spain has the Europa League final at San Mames, we also have the 2027 Champions League final guaranteed at the Metropolitano in Madrid and why not ask with our support for Seville to host one of the next European finals in this stadium.

‘I have been with Ceferin two or three times and we will ask him for the possibility of Seville hosting a city because we have the venue, the city and a fantastic hotel infrastructure to host events of that nature.’

Louzan had been visiting the Estadio La Cartuja construction site, where the athletics track will be removed, the pitch will be lowered, and the stands will be moved closer to the playing field at the stadium in Seville.

He had been negotiating with UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin over trying to get the rejuvenated stadium as host of one of the upcoming tournaments.

San Siro was stripped of hosting the tournament last year when authorities in the Italian city could not offer guarantees that refurbishment work at the stadium and the surrounding area would not affect the match.

UEFA indicated in May last year a decision on the 2027 final host was being postponed, subject to UEFA receiving the necessary guarantees around the San Siro refurbishment.

A decision on a new host was expected to have been announced in May or June this year.
