Cardi B found herself at the receiving end of criticism last weekend (November 1) following an incident at a Kamala Harris rally in Milwaukee during which her teleprompter malfunctioned.
“Another puppet who can’t even talk without being fed the words. The Kamala campaign has no authenticity or true empathy,” posted tech billionaire Elon Musk on X in the wake of the incident, alongside a video which depicts “Bodak Yellow” rapper stalling the crowd while campaign assistants sourced a phone with which she could continue her speech from.
Responding to the tech billionaire with characteristic sass, Cardi B stated on X: “I’m not a puppet Elon.. I’m a daughter of two immigrant parents that had to work their ass off to provide for me! I’m a product of welfare, I’m a product of section 8, I’m a product of poverty and I’m a product of what happens when the system is set up against you… But you don’t know nothing about that. You don’t know not one thing about the American struggle.” She then closed her post with one final jab at Musk: “PS fix my algorithm.”

Continuing her speech while reading from a mobile phone at Friday night’s rally, Cardi B emphasised women’s struggles as a key reason behind her support of Democrat candidate Harris. “Like Kamala Harris, I’ve been the underdog, underestimated, and had my success belittled,” the New York rapper told the crowd. “Women have to work ten times harder and still face questions about how we achieved success. I can’t stand a bully, but just like Kamala, I always stand up to one.”
She then proceeded to describe her reservations about Republican candidate Donald Trump. “Hustling women out of their rights is disgraceful. Hustling Americans out of their hard-earned money by selling Trump watches, Trump sneakers, Trump Bibles… do we really trust this man with our economy? A man who only cares about getting rich and cutting taxes for his billionaire friends. I don’t even get a tax cut.”
Summing up her experiences yesterday (November 3) on Instagram, Cardi B stated: “Last night was a moment I feel like I’ve been waiting for my whole life. If you know me you know I’m the biggest history nerd and I’ve been talking about politics on all my platforms for a long long time so this was a dream come true.” She also used the post to address criticisms once more, writing: “AND YES!.. I wrote my speech down because I had to make sure I said everything I wanted to say honey!! I’m sooo proud of myself you don’t even know…”
