A 12-year-old boy has died after he crashed into a tree in a horrific accident while skiing on a New Hampshire mountain popular for its beginner trails.
The boy was skiing an intermediate level trail on Cranmore Mountain in North Conway around 11am Tuesday when the tragedy unfolded.
Police say the youngster, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, struck a tree and was found unconscious in the snow, The Conway Daily Sun reported.
Ski Patrol crews began performing CPR and brought him down to the base of the mountain, where he was transported to Maine Health/Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
The boy, whose name and hometown has not yet been released, succumbed to his injuries while in the hospital.
Both the resort and Conway police department have issued their condolences to the boy’s family following the ‘tragic loss’.

On behalf of Cranmore Mountain Resort, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family,’ a spokesperson for the resort said in a statement to CBS Boston on Thursday.
‘The entire Cranmore family grieves this tragic loss.’
Conway Police Chief Christopher Mattei, echoed the sentiment, saying: ‘On behalf of the Conway Police Department, and all the first responders who assisted, I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the family members of the 12-year-old boy.’
The 12-year-old was one of two children injured at Cranmore on Tuesday, according to the Daily Sun.
A second juvenile, whose age and gender were not disclosed, was injured around noon and life-flighted to the hospital around 1.30pm.
Assistant North Conway Fire Chief Josh MacMillan, who noted that by 2pm Tuesday firefighters had already responded to seven medical calls, said ‘it was a rough day’.
Cranmore Mountain resort, located about three hours north of Boston, is a popular vacation destination amongst families because it caters to beginner skiers with easy trails and on-site lessons, according to Cranmore Real Estate.
The resort last year was recognized as ‘one of the most beginner-friendly resorts in the east’, the agency added.
