Bombshell as Anthony Cummings has his training licence sensationally revoked by Racing NSW

Group 1 winning trainer Anthony Cummings has had his licence revoked by Racing NSW following an ongoing investigation into the collapse of his business.

Cummings – son of the late, great Bart Cummings – immediately lodged an appeal to the Racing Appeals Tribunal as he sought a stay of proceedings.

The notice from Racing NSW means Cummings is still in charge of his stable of horses – but he can’t nominate any for races.

As it stands, Cummings, 69, has seven days to vacate his renowned Leilani Lodge stables at Royal Randwick in Sydney’s east.

‘Mr Cummings has appealed, and accordingly, we can’t comment as he should be provided with all due process and natural justice,’ Racing NSW chief executive Peter V’landys said.

It follows Cummings’ business Rosscarbery Holdings being placed into liquidation last November with reported debts of more than $2million.

‘The training business is trading profitably and going fine, we’ve had a few winners lately,’ he told News Corp.

‘But when your career is in the hands of others, it is difficult.

‘I’m mystified about the whole thing. I’ve done nothing wrong, haven’t broken any rules and I just don’t get it.’

It is understood Cummings has been informed a decision will be made by February 14 surrounding whether Racing NSW will grant him a stay of proceedings.

Cummings’ son Edward joined Anthony as his foreman last year after handing in his own training licence at Hawkesbury.

He stated his father will ‘continue to fight this ruling’ and pointed out the Cummings family have ‘banded together in tougher times before and won out in the end.’

Leilani Lodge has been with the family since esteemed trainer Bart Cummings – who won 12 Melbourne Cups – set up an operation at Randwick more than 40 years ago.

Across his own training career, Anthony Cummings has prepared 25 Group 1 winners and amassed more than 1000 career triumphs.

Cummings’ clouded future in the sport of kings comes as his other son James, 36, snared his 50th Group 1 triumph training for Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, in November last year.

The Sheikh is also the founder of Godolphin, the global thoroughbred breeding operation and horseracing team.
