Bill Murray’s son Luke finds himself in heated confrontation with Creighton coach during Big East Tournament

Connecticut assistant basketball coach Luke Murray, the son of legendary comedian and actor Bill Murray, found himself in a heated confrontation with Creighton’s Greg McDermott during this week’s Big East Tournament.

The Huskies were defeated by Creighton on Friday night at Madison Square Garden, where a late-game slam from Blue Jays star Jamiya Neal led to an uncomfortable moment for Luke and the Huskies.

UConn head coach Dan Hurley can be seen mouthing ‘that’s low level’ in the handshake line to Creighton’s Greg McDermott after the delayed dunk.

The two head coaches continued in opposite directions before McDermott and Luke engaged in a heated confrontation.

The two trade words for several seconds, with McDermott appearing to turn red before turning his focus to his players.

Bill Murray made an appearance at the NCAA Tournament last April, where he was spotted on press row by New York-area basketball reporter Adam Zagoria as the Huskies were repeating as national champions.

Bill Murray has watched his son become one of the top assistants in college basketball under the tutelage of Hurley.

The now-UConn head coach has hired Luke Murray onto his staff at three different schools – Wagner, Rhode Island, and now with the Huskies.

Luke Murray has also coached at Louisville, Xavier, and Towson.

No supplemental discipline is expected to come from the confrontation, with Neal apologizing for his actions in a post-game press conference.

Despite the loss, UConn is firmly on the right side of the bubble for the NCAA Tournament, with most projections having them slotted in a No 8 or 9 seed.

That seeding would give the two-time defending champion Huskies, on paper, an even matchup in the Round of 64, before, if seeding holds, playing one of the best teams in the country with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line.
