Biden announces his readiness to resume work with Russia on the nuclear file –
US President Joe Biden said that the country’s authorities are ready to urgently negotiate with Russia a new arms control regime.
“My administration is ready to move quickly in negotiations on a new arms control regime that will replace New START when it expires in 2026,” the US president said.
At the same time, he noted that the United States and the USSR worked together to ensure strategic stability even at the height of the Cold War.
“Neither of our nations, nor the entire world, are of any use in resisting participation in arms control and non-proliferation issues,” Biden said.
Earlier, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Washington, Anatoly Antonov, said that the lack of contacts with Russia on issues of strategic stability after the expiration of the Treaty on Measures for Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START) is not necessary. In the interests of the United States itself, Moscow is calling to start discussing this topic now.
