Benha National University launches an initiative "consciousness" To develop community awareness of cultural and health issues
Benha National University launched the “Awareness” initiative with the aim of increasing community awareness of various cultural, social, health and awareness issues in a way that contributes to building a society that is aware and capable of facing the challenges of the times, in cooperation with the “Decent Life” Foundation and with the participation of the National Council for Women, the Directorate of Education in Qalyubia, and the Prevention and Treatment Fund. Addiction.
The inaugural symposium dedicated to launching the “Awareness” initiative included the presentation of many awareness lectures, where Major General Wael Shawqi, Advisor for Foreign and International Relations for the Hayat Karima Foundation, gave a lecture on the Palestinian issue and Egypt’s role in supporting it, and Hend Jalal, Vice President of the Social Empowerment Sector at the Hayat Karima Foundation, also gave a lecture. An introduction to the role of the Decent Life Foundation, in addition to an introductory lecture on the services of the National Council for Women, presented by Dr. Sherine Barakat, Rapporteur of the National Council for Women’s branch in Qalyubia, and Dr. Rania Al-Kilani. Professor of Cultural Sociology gave a lecture on developing awareness and its impact on community development.
The symposium also included an awareness presentation from the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse, presented by Dr. Marwa Sabry, researcher and coordinator of preventive programs at the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction in Qalyubia Governorate, as well as a lecture on the dangers of abuse and addiction to the individual and society, presented by Dr. Mohamed Mostafa, a forensic medicine and toxicology expert in the Forensic Medicine Authority.
Dr. Tamer Samir, President of Benha National University, stressed that the university is keen to launch community initiatives because it plays a pivotal role in achieving sustainable development and enhancing social cohesion, as it is an effective tool for spreading awareness among individuals about vital issues that affect their daily lives and future. By launching such initiatives, various societal challenges can be highlighted.
He added that the role of the university is not limited to academic education only, but extends to include promoting values and developing awareness among our students and society as a whole. Hence the importance of the “Waei” initiative that was launched, to be a beacon of guidance and education, and a platform for innovation and capacity building.
Samir added that the awareness initiative is one of the university’s means of motivating its employees to participate in solving societal problems, as the public is involved in awareness campaigns, and they transform from mere recipients to contributors to change. This enhances the spirit of shared responsibility and solidarity among community members.
Dr. Mahmoud Shakal, Vice President of the University for Employment, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, pointed out that the details of the initiative include five awareness campaigns extending over a period of 5 weeks, with each week dealing with a specific topic that reflects the needs and priorities of society. The campaigns include artistic and cultural topics as well as others related to preventive health and combating addiction. The initiative is keen to raise awareness of women’s rights, raise awareness of the importance of digital transformation, and emphasize the needs and rights of people of determination.
He added that the community service sector is one of the main axes to which the university pays special attention, as the university always seeks to make a positive impact through awareness and development projects that care about the environment and respond to the needs of society, adding that the “Wa’i” initiative is a new step in our journey towards building a more aware and cohesive society. It is an invitation to everyone, students, faculty and partners, to provide their contributions and creativity to make this initiative a success.
