Belle of the ball! Queen Mary of Denmark dazzles in a glittering pink gown as she joins King Frederik to host gala dinner in Copenhagen

Queen Mary of Denmark dazzled in a glittering pink gown as she and King Frederik hosted a gala dinner to celebrate Danish art and culture on Friday night.

The royal, 52, oozed glamour as she arrived at Christiansborg Palace in a sequinned dress, which featured silver beading and embellishments of clear crystals in the shape of flowers.

Mary added touches of glitz to her already chic ensemble with a jewelled diadem, which she matched with vintage-look earrings and a show stopping diamond ring.

She wore her brunette locks pushed back from her face with the tiara, and opted for a natural make up style for the evening in Copenhagen.

The mother-of-two grinned as she arrived alongside her husband, King Frederik, 56, who also dressed up for the occasion in a classic black tuxedo.

Also in attendance was Queen Margrethe, who abdicated from the Danish throne last January, handing the throne to her son King Frederik X.

Margrethe, 84, joined the gala dinner in a satin, royal blue gown, which featured black lace detailing across the top and sleeves.

She too wore a glistening diadem, and opted for a statement silver necklace.

It comes on a busy week for Queen Mary, who had presented the Ministry of Education and Research’s EliteForsk awards in her native Denmark’s capital on Tuesday.

Mary joined the Minister for Higher Education and Science, Christina Egelund, to host the awards at Copenhagen’s Black Diamond – a modern waterfront extension to the Royal Danish Library’s old building on Slotsolmen.

The awards are aimed at recognising researchers who have made significant contributions to Danish science.

Those up for the awards this year spanned a wide breadth of research areas including in military decision-making processes, snake venom, and fertility.
